Re: Parked Indefinite

Awesome fab work and cool idea! I thought about putting a hx35w on my 354 hemi. What are running for timing adjustment when boost comes on? Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Not too worried about the manual brakes as they can work just as good as a power system.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I actually managed to get a MSD 6btm when a friend was putting his car back to stock. Was a good day!

Managed to finish up the turbo mounts, next up will be the hot side piping. Here's the pics

Re: Parked Indefinite

Oh yeah, looks awesome! Did you do anything to the old engine to hold boost? And where can a guy get the aluminum inlet that bolts to the carb? You have me thinking.

Search carb hat or blow through/thru

Awesome build man, can't wait to see cold pipes routed and this thing running!

Awesome fab work! I like it! Don't get me wrong... I don't think the motor is going to last without a forged bottom end... BUT all the hard work will be done fabing everything if and when that happens you will just have to swap engines. KEEP IT UP.

Engine is bone stock as far as I know, and it took 8lbs boost without issue with the old setup. Might treat it to an oil change though, we'll see.

Thanks again! Agree 100%. Forged would be ideal, but just not in the cards right now. I have confidence in the stocker though, and it'll be simple enough to change later on when the right deal comes along.

Anyways, the hotside piping is done, here's the pics

Re: Parked Indefinite

Well, here's where I'm at as of tonight. After I finished mocking up the turbos I decided to turn my attention to the rest of the truck and this what happened:

Hoping to have the frame painted and back on all fours in the next few days. After that I will be repairing the minor rust on the cab and box. Quite happy that the truck turned out to be as solid as it is, not very common around here

Re: Parked Indefinite

Hey gang, progress has been a bit slow, but managed to get a coat of black on the frame. Now with the cab back on, the decision has been made to get that firewall smooth. I've done it on another car I own, but held back a little bit. Think I'm going to challenge myself with this endeavor and shoot for a completely flat 'wall. Just trying to finalize a plan and then its time to juice up the plasma and have at it. Here's some pics of getting the cab prepared as I ponder which cut to make first...

Re: Parked Indefinite

The monotony of my day to day garbage job has been having a direct effect on my life. Depressed, unmotivated and generally lost, I've not only turned to my tried and true mix of Jim Beam and off brand ginger ale, I've been trying to draw inspiration from my first try at a turbo small block. Pictures will follow, but let me set the scene. Young, broke, clueless, yet motivated(!) I hit up craigslist in search of the largest cheapest turbo money could buy. Well i couldn't have been more tickled to have stumbled upon not only an exceptionally large turbo, it was a cheap turbo! $60 was a small price to pay to join to forced induction club i thought, and the process to fit this behemoth to my vortec headed sbc was set to begin! I'll add to this story in time but for now i'll describe the following pics. First 2 are of the relic itself; likely a long forgotten milestone of the pinnacle of turbochargers in the early 60's. The following trio show how to drain a turbo and reference a mechanical pump on the cheap. The last pic, however, is a warning to those who have spent the time to build a turbo setup. Don't waste your time doing this, then invite all of your buddies over with the intent to show off how sweet it sounds spooling up. A turbo most likely won't spool up like you'd wish with zero load on the engine. An embarrassing lesson learned for sure.

Hey man, I know how it is to not be motivated. I'm broke too! I wish I even had a job. Hang in there, let the truck be your motivation. The light at the end of the tunnel, this truck will be totally badass and built with YOUR hands. Great progress man, can't wait to see a video of it when you're finished.

Re: Parked Indefinite

This is one of the coolest builds on here right now to me. Much more interesting than the million dollar builds with a bunch of bolt on parts. I cant wait to see more progress on this.

Re: Parked Indefinite

Spent the weekend lowering the truck another 2". Weighed my options of how to go about it and decided to channel the cab and lower to rad support to match. Threw the fenders and turbos on just to see how everything is coming together. Here's the pics:
