I'll follow along.

If you like the silver color on the gauge panel, you can just get some clear coat and spray that over the silver. Either way, looks like you'll be buying more paint.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

What wheel off set did you get? Is there a special offset needed for 10" wheels?

Where did you order your tires from?

Keep up the good work!

thanks! haven't really done much yet but hopefully soon...

the standard BS for the 15x10's i ordered is 4.5". i had it changed to 5.25". essentially that will put the outside edge of the tire in the same location as the 275/60's that were on the truck in the photos earlier in this thread. the extra tire width will move inward. if i measured correctly, the space between the tires and the inner wheel tub should be about 1.25".

i got the tires from summit. free shipping...

that's a good idea. i already re-sprayed it with some "aluminum" color i had laying around. if i don't like the look if it i will retry that argent with some clear.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

well most of the parts for the suspension rebuild are now in hand, so i tore into the front. i stripped a brake line fitting, but otherwise everything came off pretty easily. the brake rotors have some pretty major grooves, so i think i'm going to buy a complete disc brake kit.

next is some cleaning and then i need to find some por15. the wheels are off being powdercoated. i'm still fiddling with the gauge bezel and glove box door paint. getting a little frustrated, but i think i'm getting close.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I believe the factory rotor had one deep groove somewhere near the center of the brake surface. If that's the groove you're talking about, no worries. But if you want to go with a big brake setup, now's a great time to do so!

interesting. i didn't even think about the fact that it was on both sides of the rotor, and may have been on both rotors now that you mention it. i'm going to replace them anyway so it's all new, but not enough $$$ at this time for the big brakes...

There's a lot of options on brakes.

The stock front disc/rear drum setup on 71 and newer, are a pretty good way to go (73 and newer are same as 71 and 72's), especially when compared to the 4 wheel drum stuff previous.

Just my POV, I'll be installing factory type front disc on my 67 and 68, and not look back.

You can use D153 on calipers that use D52 pads. They were light duty 3/4 ton pads on pickups in the 70's and 80's. They have a little more surface area than the D52's.

Keep up the great work!!!

thanks, that's where i'm leaning too. i'll look into the D153's, i am intrigued.

The silver looks good on the suspension parts! So did you decide on white for the interior, or are you doing fawn? Saw your "oh c******st" add and it looks like you picked up some fawn armrests.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

thank you. yep, went with fawn. i like how it looks and it was the original color. i've found all the OEM fawn interior parts in pretty good shape except a center seat belt. even the buddy buckets match, although they have a few tears. so i'm pretty stoked about that.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

so i was originally going to run some white painted 67 caps that i had, but i didn't like the look with the primer, and i didn't think i would like it once i get the truck painted black and all the stainless trim put on. i bought some 67 stainless caps, but there was too much red for me so i sold them (yes i'm picky). i was starting to think i would just go without caps when i got lucky this week and found a decent set of 68 stainless caps. i think this will work for me! what do you guys think? ignore the stance, i still have jack stands under there.

I like it! Will look perfect once it's sitting on its own. I agree with you, gotta have the 68 paint scheme on the 67-68 caps if you've got a 68. Look forward to seeing more pics. Also the glovebox door looks really nice

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

getting pretty close to having the front suspension wrapped up. hoping to get it on the ground soon to see how it looks. suspension work takes a lot longer than i thought!!

i just need to get the tie rods & connecting rod bolted in, and replace a few brake lines. only two simple steps, but it seems like each step turns into 5 more small tasks...

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

well she's back on the ground. when i first bolted on the wheels i discovered the spindles were hitting the wheels. i've heard a lot of stories of control arms rubbing, but i haven't heard that about the spindles before. i bought some 5/16" spacers and trimed about an 1/8" off the spindles and it's all good. what do you think? it seems a tad low to me, but i think i just need to get used to it.

That's correct, most if not all GM rotors from the late 60's had that groove.
