Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

I would be interested in one of these in the near future if you're going to be doing more of them.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

A bump for your thread and a question. I checked my 72 this morning and the switch is right down near the firewall , so do I have an original? I ask because my 4 way flasher button is black and not like the two on the columns in this thread.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

yes it would be an original. I have seen some NOS flashers on site that are black and original and some red. So I am not sure... Most people prefer red. But I am guessing your turn signal switch was replaced at some time. replaced with a black knob

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

68 non tilt column I just did for member henry3rd was not a total restore but dang near. He just wanted blasted and painted black. I still tested the switch...blasted lithium grease and got er' wet.. polished up all levers and even blasted the clamp/retainers and fasteners for the lower end bearing..

Yes I have many I am restoring.. I will have to adjust shipping accordingly for Canada. Should not be much more and we can keep the customs value down. PM me sir.

Thanks,
Duane

A completely restored true truck column will run $425-$450 depending on parts and shipping.

$350 all refurbished, blasted sleeve, steering shaft, shift tube, bowl, etc. Everything degrease and all contact points lubed with lithium grease.

All of these tilts will fit in any 1967-1972 truck. The difference in 1967 columns and some 68's is they have one complete longer steering shaft. The 69-72 have the collapsible intermediate shafts which attach to the the steering gear box. I believe it was a safety standard upgrade so the steering column would have some give upon a wreck or front end collision.

No tilt columns till '69,but those will bolt in a 67/68. Be sure to get a later collapsible lower steering shaft as well.

I have installed a van tilt without moving the NSS. What am I missing? It worked for me. Maybe it's good to not know better? I went to put the one I had installed in a truck for 15 years and was laying around a few years. I was surprised, after reading about them on this website, that the NSS was still in the original van position knowing it fit perfectly fine before. I had bought the column completely restored from Cheyenne Super Man as a truck tilt before I knew better. I installed it and used it before I knew better, too. But,I put it right in another truck just fine.

Re: Restored Auto Tilt Column

Actually it was no tilts until 1970, but anyway, the only way I could MAYBE see a van NSS working in the van location is if the column was shoved all the way toward the dash panel with the shift collar touching the dash rubber seal. If you put the column where it belongs, with the little tab on the brake pedal mount, in the correct slot in the column, the NSS wont fit.

That's what I am saying.. IT CAN BE DONE.

I was thinking tilts in 70 because of the lack of intermediates in the earlier columns.
