Re: Transmission options

Thanks for the info.

A T5 may be a bit easier.....but so far has been kind of tough to find.

I found a NV3500 (or similar) that is available for cheap. ($150.00)

An adapter plate is available the way it looks.

http://www.transmissionadapters.com/...V8%20Style.htm

Ouch the kit is $595 with a starter.

A T5 would be much cheaper I am guessing....

Re: Transmission options

That kit is for an automatic transmission. You don't need the flywheel and maybe not the starter. I'd contact them and ask about the plate only.

Seems he had it meshed up to a 235 at one point and was selling them together, but it seems he sold the engine and now only has the tranny.

Also an article I saved for info on the T5:

and to decode:

Re: Transmission options

Can I just ask what you guys think of a NV4500?
I know it's a little more heave duty, I like the fact that it has a separate bell housing, and that fact that the shifter is far enough forward, to possibly work in the stock location.
And I managed to find one for $250 (I'll try to haggle down to 200, maybe lower)
A lot better than this:

Good trans but too big and slow for a street rod type of build. great for say a 6BT cummins work truck.

Just speaking on what I know, anyone else correct me if I am wrong...

They came in heavier duty applications from 1993-2007 I believe. I think there are two versions of them, one a "lighter" application that was used in the V8s and a "heavier" application that was used behind the V10s and diesels.

They are cumbersome and very heavy from what I have read. For your application, which I believe I read you were going back to more of a stocker setup - I think it is overkill especially if you keep that inline 6. With that being said, I would recommend looking for a NV3500 (not the HM290 or 5LM60) or a World Class T5. I know Stovebolt has a few articles on them and they are a few transmission swaps out there in the ADs so you can find some information about them.

And the cummins tend to come from the dodge pickups which had different input splined shafts. I found one from a chevy V8 truck.

Actually, my 216 is shot, I'm using a 327. I found a couple world class T-5s, but I'm afraid the shifter is a little too far back, and will need a new hole cut in the floor.

Re: Transmission options

Just a comparison to how tough they are. I know about the cummins
And the S10 T5 tail housing will move the shifter forward quite a bit. I am conceding this swap.
