Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Each corner (bag) is run separately to each paddle switch or electric valve. It inflates and exhausts on its own. 4 bags, 4 lines. That way you don't get cross contamination, especially if you go drive it and in the first corner it will feel like its rolling over!

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Ok thank you I will go buy 2 more paddle switches, I have only 2 now and both fronts are on one and both backs on the other, '

Another question if you have time, How do you guys know if your truck is level or not if each bag is separate><>? Mount up a bubble level like in a motorhome>?

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Hi, Thanks for the interest and help guys,

I had more trouble with my front bags rubbing on my LCAs so I broke down and bought new tube upper and lower ones, At that point I had no choice but to pancake my crossmember, Most of the stuff was already unbolted, and doing it will keep my new LCAs off the pavement.

a question I have is, should I move the crossmember forward an inch to center my tires in the wells>?

Pancake is almost done now,

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

There is a thread in the suspension forum regarding the crossmember movement. 5/8ths is the magic number without issues if I remember correctly. Ill try to find it and post a link

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

My Pappy gave me these dash clusters years ago, I just re found em the other day, Im pleased. Ill mount the tack and air gauge in my truck.

Oops I missed your question Roadrat. I dont have pics at this time of the rear bags, but I mounted them about in the center of my drag links/trailing arms. Same as Coulter and Jdoisher did in their builds.

Here it is. The 5/8 was another member doing the mod on page 2. Its a lower arm forward vs. Entire crossmember forward mod

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Thanks Newfisher, Hey I just read one of your threads. Nice Suburban and camp setup. Subs are hard to find in those years, My pappy had a 49 chev panel when I was a kid I rode around in the back of, Windows would have been nice!

I was going to run red rims with caps and rings but my buddy sold me a set of 5 aluminum 20 inch rims, and 8 20 inch tires for 200 dollars, I dont love the look of large rims on older things, but I did notice they do look nice if you tuck em waaaay up inside the fender wells so you cant see most of em.

Im also real interested in seeing what that does for my gear ratio on the freeway, my 6 sounds angry at 75 right now.

But to answer your question directly, Im not sure what brand the rims are, and I put disks on the front so the rims fit there ok as soon as I pull out my inner fenderwells, and the spacers are for the back so the ridges on the axles dont hit the small holes in the back of the rims, So spacers on the back only,

Thanks for your time

Andy

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

You will probably want to remount those bags. They should be centered on the arm or they will cause the arms to twist and bend then likely break the mount in the front.

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

I hear ya for sure, I had planned to build the insides of the arms out under the bags but never got to it yet. I will be on it right after I get my front end put back together. I need to raise my steering box I think, so Im off to research how much is good to move it,

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Ok I just read everything I could find on raising the steering box. I went 2 inches on my pancake so Ill have to move all the steering now from what Ive read,

One thing I am not sure on is.. Will I need to get a steering shaft with a U joint in it if I raise the steering>?

Thanks in advance for your time,

The problem with the bags isn't the supporting of them on the arms but the twisting motion of them being offset. There are a couple of treads on here that cover it in detail.

My crossmember on my 66 was raised 2 inches as well. I will take some pics of the steering set up. I forgot if there is a u-joint in there or not (I got it that way). You will have to notch the frame to clear the steering though.

Re: 64 Chev C10 Slam (Noob Style)

Thanks alot guys!

Newfisher I got the back 2 bags plumbed up today, I assumed each bag gets its own feed straight from the tanks yes?

Or do some people run a single large feed line up behind the switches and split it 4 times?

Have a good week
