I was loosening the positive cable first on my olds (yeah, dumb idea) but it hit the fender and sparked and blew off the front of the battery and cooked pretty much everything forward of that. I also dropped a battery that was brought into our store on the hard concrete floor. The sides cracked and blew acid all up my pants and on my shoes. I've still got the shoes and pants, but they're holier than anything because of the acid. it stripped the paint off the cement floor back there too. man, my dad was mad.

A friend of mine and I used to work at at auto parts store in high school. My friend was load testing a battery on the back counter for a customer and BOOM. My friend and the customer were taken to the hospital to have their eyes checked. It burned their clothes, skin and pretty much ruined everything in a five foor radius of the back counter.
