Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

When You remove the glass and gasket from the small window you will see the flange on the inside of the cab liner. This is the same size you will need on the outside of the big window opening. I use my finger as a guide and draw a line all the way around the opening then cut with a pair of electric nibblers. Good Luck

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

thank you very much for the tip... i was serious when i said i was going out to start on it! haha i already cut it all out and welded it all back together... it went pretty well i thought considering i have never done this before. i have the inside corners to do yet (hard part) i thought that might the small window lip was probably the right size but was scared it wasnt... haha i made my lip a little bigger... i think i might grind it down so it is the same as the stock one if that will work... i was just scared that a bigger window might have a larger seal. but i was very sure to make sure everything was still straight when i got it welded back together and i think i did pretty good... like i said first time (everyone told me i was stupid for trying this stunt!) i love this sight though and all the info! keep the comments coming out cause never know who is going to learn from it! the only thing i am unsure about now is finishing my inside corners! but thats another night! any info is welcome!

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

Hey Quarter Can, I wouldn't cut anything 'till you find your big back glass. There has to be some parts yards in your area that might have the sheet metal your looking for. I'm in Charlotte and I found two doner trucks in one location. One with the big back glass that I needed.

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

Here are a few pics of the lip both inside and out. I did use a factory big window liner. It sounds like you are using a kit or fabricating your own.

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

I've got Tony (lil Red ) keeping his eyes out for a BBW cab that has been damaged so I can get the inner panel piece to do this conversion on my 62' If anyone knows where there is one or has one let me know.

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

I am envious, I found a Big Rear window cab and drove over an hour to pull out the panel. I get there and the guy had told me it was perfect, well one side was OK and the other side and top was so rusted through that it would fall apart and you could put your finger through it if you pressed hard enough. No way it was going to survive being pulled out. Hell it was coming out by itself and to make it worse the guy was an A*S. So my hunt goes on for a Big Window Donor Panel. I know it was to good to be true.

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

Thanks Bro, I just called him this morning and he said he sold it just before Christmas and forgot to take it off.

I appreciate it that would have been convenitent I have a buddy that goes up there twice a month. Hopefully I'll run across the inner panel close that someone does not want an arm and leg for.

Become a supporting member of this board & you can post a want to buy/looking for thread in the classifieds. $25 bucks is a cheap investment vs. the return of info/parts opportunities the membership offers.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Small Back Window to Big Back Window Conversion

Getting ready to do mine. Project old school way. Anyone have the article or know the guy that did the work? A buddy has a factory big window cab I pulled a dimension from it. I laid it out on my truck. I will be starting next weekend.
