I understand that. I think it’s the luck of the draw. I had one cab corner that the door gap was so bad that I had to cut it out and buy another. A body guy told be that these aftermarket parts are a cast of a cast. So it’s had to get the exactly right.

Re: 57 Truck build

Did a couple of things today. I cut down the tubs and welded them in. I cut them down to two inches instead of 3 1/2. This will allow me to keep the stock bed wood. I also installed the hidden latches. Now I’m going to fix the bed ends so the match up with the front panel and tailgate.

Re: 57 Truck build

Didn’t do much today. Cut out the step pad and smoothed it out. Hopefully I can get to the other side tomorrow.

Nice work. You’re a great fabricatior. I like your tail lights so much I’m going the same way. I was trying to figure out what to do and really like the look.

Thanks! It’s is my third build and I build up some more confidence in my fab work. The speedway kits isn’t real hard to do it’s just getting the placement right.

Re: 57 Truck build

Short fab day today. All I got done is the drivers side step. Maybe next week I can finish the front bed rails and move the Right side bed rail up a little. Then the bed mods are done.

It doesn’t I had to mod each aftermarket part I bought. I should have kept the originals and fixed them. But now the parts fit the truck.

Re: 57 Truck build

After removing all the unnecessary riveted on things on my chassis, I took the chassis to the powder coater and had them sand blast it . Only took the afternoon.

I then took it home and gave it two coats of Duplacolor self etching primer and two coats of Duplacolor semi gloss black paint . By the evening it was ready to start the next day .

This gave me a non rusting chassis to work on for less then $ 200 .

Then the fun began with the installation of the boxing plates , the I.F.S. Cross member and rear brackets for the fat bar rear suspension. All that was required was a little grinding where the welding was to be done and afterwards touch up with self etch primer and paint.

Sure beats grinding for days and gives you a painted chassis read for assembly.

Re: 57 Truck build

No problem. That’s what the form is for, helping people. I like what you did with your frame. I installed did my front end almost two years ago but never fully welded in. My friend sold his shop and I had to put it together and bring it home. Then I started on the sheet metal work. So now I’m trying to get it finished and painted so I gain get done with my build. Nice work on your chassis!

Re: 57 Truck build

Thanks, doing it this way I didn’t have to take it back apart to clean and paint then reassemble. Allows me to keep building layer after layer .

I would have done it that way too if I didn’t have to bring it home. This time it will be a full chassis with engine in before I put the cab back on. I will even do a start up of the 4.8.

Re: 57 Truck build

I used the KBS frame coater kit and I have spent two weeks of sanding and respraying trying to get it to look right. I dont recommend the products all. Finally got it looking ok and I’ll start putting it back together tomorrow.
