Re: blocks need springs

Thanks. I like the spring down away from the frame. It would seem that I could get more articulation with that set up also. I found these at 4wheelparts

Re: blocks need springs

I'll give you a tip, I ordered my kit and there was not one mention of possible frozen rusted bolts or even the worn out rubber frame bushing in the front. Regardless of where you buy the springs be prepared to have frozen spring and shackle bolts, maybe even go check them before you order the springs. I had to buy new shackles and and also added a greasable bolt and bushing kit from Offroad design, these bushings are a little shorter in length and the sleeves have hols drilled in so there is passages for the grease to flow. All this stuff and now problems with my shocks have held up my progress tremendously.

If your front springs have the slipper pads between the leaves i'd also try and do the same to the rear, and consider the wedge on the bottom. I think BDS springs are about the same price for just the springs.. I have a lot of pic's on my build thread..

O trust me I know that things that can go wrong and hard when doing leaf springs. I've got a several sets under my belt. The good thing is this truck was just put together by the p/o. So I think it will go smooth in that sense. The new springs have new bushings in them so I wont have to worry about that either. The spring perch's are gonna be tough,,but I'll manage.
Not sure if the front has slipper pads but it dont look like it. I think I'll check and see if I can slip the greaseable bolts in the budget. I usually jack that whole area full of waterproof grease. Just in case.

Re: blocks need springs

Quick update: I got the heater core ordered. Dropped the inner fender wells to access the engine compartment...super easy. Plus it gives ya a ton of room to relax. She devolped a valve cover leak on her last run out to vegas last week. Lost half a quart of oil in an hour...eek. It was just a loose bolt thou. Checked the rockers and tighted it back down....fixed. While I'm here thou I was able to wash the entire front end and give it all a fresh coat of flat black, plus undercoat the back of the fenders.

So now while I wait I need to take care of ordering these spring perches for the rear axle. Problem is I don't know what to order to replace them. Anyone have any advise on where and what size perches to order?

Re: blocks need springs

Have you checked in LMC? I'm sure one of the vendors will have the perches you need. Check with early classics, LMC or Brothers. GMC Paul would be another good place to check.

Re: blocks need springs

I just thought of something, Off road design had some small offset blocks that can ether be on center, or offset ether front or back, 1" thick, if ya don't want full springs maybe add this?

Thanks for that info. I found some places to get the perches ,,, I just don't know what to get. I measured the axle tube and spring width. 3" on both. Thought it would be more complicated...lol.

Correction: 3" tube 2.5" spring. I see a lot for this size. Is there a difference in which brand to get..? They look pretty basic to me. I was considering some anti spring wrap perch for when I get springs and remove the lift block.

Tuff Country lists a 6" lift with rear springs on their website. They distribute through summit too though.

And, Member "teeitup" has a dual steering stabilizer kit listed in the for sale section right now. It is the stacked style, rather than the side-by-side style, but the price is right.

And anyone know anything about the driveshaft? I just know it cant be stock.
Thoughts and comments welcome!

Nice truck! That rear driveshaft DOES have a slip joint in it right?

Re: blocks need springs

Dam...I think I fixed it...I got a bunch of stuff done over the past week or so while waiting for parts. I finally have heat! Heater core and hoses...also found some left over braiding.

Also painted the grill, took a part the dash and interior painted it....a quart of paint and some free time. The interior was a horrible brown yellow black mess. So needless to say im stoked its finally painted.

Spring perchers arrived....im gonna get on replacing those next..
