Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Since some of you may not have the means to prepare this flange, I've prepared two steering shaft to rag joint flanges, and am offering them for sale. The cost on these is $20 for those that have purchased an adapter plate from me, plus $6 for shipping. If you purchase one along with an adapter plate there is no extra for shipping.

This is for those of you that want to convert to power steering and retain your original column.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I am going to need one for the 67 C20 we are building. We will be installing an aftermarket tilt column. The engine is an 6.0 LQ9 with 4L80E. Have not selected the box yet.

60-62?

Here's my concern about 60-62 installs-
your mount on a 63-66, fits great!

Looks like the boxed 60-62 frame is not quite as tall. The red mount that Jake uses looks like a horrible fit on the older frames. Maybe a slight bit of repositioning away from the factory angle will make it line up to the frame better, but will that hurt the functionality of it?

This "I think" is the REZ kit that Jake Groby used on his 60-62. Kit says 60-66 I believe. note bottom left has stud due to frame location, top right is also problem, instructions say to notch frame??!? Seriously?

slepysal did the CPP 60-62 specific kit and used a $20 part on top of that for his steering shaft. From his thread:

not sure if the CPP kit "tweaks" the mounting location a hair clockwise to make it work better, but this is obviously the same 73-87 box bolt pattern, and it fits on the frame at the top right, and under the frame on the bottom left. Makes me wonder about alignment changes from stock, but if it works (I assume "yes" since it's in production), this kit looks far better than the other.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

After reading the thread through start to finish again, I noted that you said your bracket uses none of the existing holes. The red one Jake uses says that the lower right hole only partially aligns, and you will need to drill this one out. This hole, other than the slight elongation in the frame, is common between the two boxes on their kit. Where is yours in relation to this? The inside the frame pic you have looks like the holes were welded shut? Can't seem to place the old locations.

I think I may give your kit a shot, but still thinking about the 60-62 CPP kit. Need to make sure I have a complete grasp on everything before I save almost half off and buy yours. Any input to help me along?

I'll see if I can get a better pic of how mine mounts in relation to the factory holes on the '63-'66 frame. I honestly don't know how mine would work on a '60-'62 frame. I've not mounted one on the older frames, nor do I have one to check out. In the pics you posted, it appears that the profile of the '60-'62 frame is slightly different than the '63-'66's. If you were to purchase one of mine and it wouldn't work in your application, I would refund your purchase price of the bracket minus shipping.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Sam, do you realize that this bracket is designed for the '63-'66's? It might work on the '60-'62's but I haven't tried it yet. I can't seem to find a '60-'62 around here to work with. If you want to give it a try and it doesn't work you can send it back and I'll refund your money.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Okay no biggie I can fab one up. What about the flange. Will my factory rag joint not work? If not I'll need one of yours if you have any more.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I'm not 100% positive since I haven't installed power steering on a '60-'62, but I think it should work. To be on the safe side, if it is available, get the end of the steering column sfate from the truck you're getting the box from and do as Eager1 did on his. He has a thread about the steering and brakes.
If you would just rather get the one I have just let me know.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Any thing I need to know for a '67 C20 with manual steering converting to Power?

Will have a SBC and a 72 truck tilt column that will be chromed. If you need any more info before I buy your kit let me know.

Thanks!

Scott

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Assuming that a '67 C20 frame is the same as a '67 C10 frame in the steering box area, you don't need this adapter plate. All you should need are four spacers 1/4" thick. Is your steering box bolted to the frame with 4 bolts? and is the frame completely smooth or does it have a slight raised 'dimple' for each steering box bolt?

I will be happy to sell you one of these adapter plates if you need one. But my experience tells me you don't. Let me know if I am wrong.

^^^^^ I am sure you would.

I just know the manual box is held in place by 4 bolts.

Now whether it has the dimples or not I can not answer that at this time.
