Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
So, A casting date of April 17th 1967 with an assembly date of May 5th 1967.
Interesting, so an 18 day difference. What head casting numbers are on that engine? Are they original to that engine? Also, if they are originals... what are the casting casts on the heads?

Its four months later (give or take) and thats huge. The YS assembly code suffix is the basic build manual trans L30/327 used in C10-30s. Could just be a case of using up stockpiled castings.

I am still looking for a Dec 10, 1966 (L 10 6) to Dec 19, 1966 (L 19 6) block with casting of 3892657. But the more examples I see the clearer the date differences in the casting date to assembly date are becoming. SS Tim... your help has been hugely appreciated. Thank You !!

Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
Not much help right now, but my brother has a 67 cst 327/th400 laying in the weeds at my folks house. I know for a fact its bone stock, had the original shocks on it when they bought it several years ago. It will be a few weeks before I can get up to look at it, but I'll try to remember to grab the numbers off of it. Also, it will be not for sale, so therefore will probably be the one you want! lol. It was his first truck.

Build date is not listed on the truck. The engine's assembly code is the closest documented number and that is on the protect-o-plate along with a single digit for the build month of the vehicle. But being built before the truck there is an ambiguous timeframe between engine assembly and vehicle assembly. If you happen to also have a build sheet it will show the engine suffix code and the trucks "scheduled" built date.

Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
Yes, the L 8 6 is off the passenger side rear of block. The 3882858 is off the intake manifold. Hopefully in the next week I can pull the valve cover off the drivers side cyl. head. It is an older gasket seat spark plug head. The passenger side was a '71 cast date, but it has the newer taper seat spark plugs

Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
Quote:
What we can tell you from you engine assembly code is: V engine assembly plant, Flint 12 month, December 21 21st day of December YH The suffix code, tells us the application it was assembled for. In this case either 67 C10-20 327 with three speed automatic (TH400) or 68 C20-30 327 wih a three speed automatic (TH40) But without a casting date I can't tell you if it is a 67 or 68 block. It could very well have been assembled in December of 66 (67MY) or December of 67 (68MY). The casting date is the "key" to determining the year of the motor. The thread above stresses too heavily the casting number when in fact it dosen't matter, if the engine assembly code and casting date match the vehicle build. Of course you want to confirm the casting number usage to ensure it is not a restamp or undocumented suffix code reuse by the engine assembly plant.

Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
Tim, I was mostly wanting it to be verified that this is not a V 1 22 IYH (edit, thinking about this statement. it would have to be a V0122xxx to be a January 22... nevermind)
I wasn't even sure that was possible. It was just one of those moments that I wanted a responsible adult to walk in the room and say we were on the right track. As far as my focus on the casting number, It is more of a concluding that all V = Flint 327's are a 3892657 block (???) and because the general public knows the cast numbers in finding and having a block. If I state I am looking for a xxxx code block, most people will not look for the info. If I make it specific to a block, people generally know where that is, if they see they have a 3892657 block they may be curious to locate the other 2 needed/important numbers. If V stamped 327's could be a different block casting number, then I am all wet and shooting myself in the foot. So, my asking for the block casting is more of a research/verification that I might be onto something. Unless there is something already known and Im just catching up or that I totally wrong and just haven't figured it out yet.

Re: Any one have a 1967 truck with 327 engine?
Thanks for following up with the numbers!
Exactly what I expected to find. A December (l) 16th (16) 1966 (6) cast block with the previously decoded December 21st 1966 assembly date. The fact that it is both a YH and a ...657 block very strongly supports that narrowing the search to only ...657 blocks is going to yield "67 cst swb" a correct block. Of course he might just turn up a 67 Camaro Z28 block or a 67 Camaro SS350 block instead. :-) Now Elliot949, Do you have a POP (Protect-O-Plate) or a build sheet to support that as the original engine assembly code?
