What the passenger side door looks like -



Replacement passenger door, needs a little work -







Glovebox SPID





Did some cleaning today, near 100 degree temp
No rush on these, just cleaning to see what's underneath - both look like keepers!





How did I miss this earlier? More custom pinstripe! Driver's door -
Pinstripe isn't on the passenger's side door, prob. because a prev. owner had repaired it once before!

Did you ever find the serial number on your frame ? There' "SUPPOSED" to be one on top of the frame, near where the power steering hose overlaps your frame in the first picture here ( of your truck ). The other picture here shows someone pointing to THAT area of their own truck.

Thanks Steve, never knew there was another one stamped on the frame. Went out to look and found it. Showed up nice after being blasted. It isn't the same number scheme as the VIN though.

The number that you first posted had a "1" in front and that, I think, should be for "71". I thought some of the other numbers should be the last five numbers of your serial number ( maybe ). There are a lot of other threads on this site that talk about this subject. At the very top of any of these pages, there is a Google search box that has: "WEB - 67-72chevytrucks.com" Type in: " Frame number" or "Number on frame" in that search box and a lot of other older threads will come up. Make sure you check the circle that says: "67-72chevytrucks.com" and NOT the one that says: "WEB". The list below, decodes the serial numbers for 67-72's. The rest would have a letter ( in my case "B" for the Baltimore plant ) and a "1" followed by the build sequence of your truck.

^ What you are refering to is the VIN number. That I have. It's on the SPID. I've already identified the cab (SPID) and frame (cab mounts positions / and extra support brackets - both oulined in pics up thread) to be a C20. Now I understand that I have a truck - in which somebody switched out the rear with a 1/2 ton axle/differential. The truck can no longer support the weight of what a 3/4 ton truck can - due to the fact it has a 1/2 ton axle/differential. The number I posted, and took down - wasn't the same numbering scheme as the VIN. If the number on the front of the frame is a serial number, it might not mean much. I looked and couldn't find info on that number, but the VIN I've got decoded. I'll check some more.

Identification

Steve, you were right.

The number on the frame by the power steering is a partial of the VIN.
It does not specify the Chassis Type, GVW Range or Model Code (hence, not the same scheme).
It does match the second half of the VIN on the glovebox SPID -

1) 1971
2) Janesville production plant
3) Serial Number

What it doesn't specify is the Chassis Type, GVW Range (1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton) or Model Code.
What this tells me = My cab does in fact go with the frame

Next thing to identify - differential.
I know nothing about axle/differentials, only that a 3/4 ton truck of this age should not have a 5 lug axle.
Looks like maybe the differential could be from a 3/4 ton? Not sure, I'll have to investigate when I have time, or someone could respond and save me the trouble?

update

Small update. Took the bench out tonight and removed the sound damping material and cover. Don't think I can salvage them. Here's what the cab floor looks like:

found some stamps under it all, no idea what their from


Got the front/right caliper freed the other day. Put the bench seat back in (temporarily), and now my truck is FINALLY ready to be taken to the body shop tomorrow morning for cab work.

ha, I wish. You jogged my memory a little. I VAGUELY remember them. My mother use to collect them and buy things. Guess there was a booklet used to fill up. She bought a few things with them - small brass, or metal, peacocks that hung on the wall, and some Bambi decorations for my older brother's room when he was a baby.

Yeah i threw my hei out of my sbc in it. And took the carb apart n cleaned it. Still have a dead spot in the secondarys so I've got a kit with metering rods n jets etc coming for it. Hopefully get that worked out. Other than that it runs great

Thanks! Wish the bedside and fender agreed. Not sure if I should just weld a patch on the right/bottom fender or just replace the whole thing. One of my two bedsides was rusted through pretty good. The other bedside I have seems salvageable, but on the inside/back of it, it looks like some bad rust. My fear is that if I don't replace it entirely, the rust will break through to visible areas after I paint it. That'd suck. Can't seem to find any decent (oem) bedsides for a LWB around here.

For the sandblasting, I asked their permission to post their name (w/the pictures) - but not sure I got a response. I'll end up going back to get some more work done and I'll ask again.

score!! - tailgate found

Found a 1969 tailgate on CL last night in Madrid, IA.
OEM - was taken off in early 70's for a camper top. Stored ever since!
Great condition (very straight) with very minor surface rust on bottom corner. Will post pics later!
