Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

After listening to the old motor with the hood up it sounds more like a spun crank bearing and not a thrown rod. If anyone in the Houston area wants a motor to rebuild this one is free, need to get rid of it asap. Come and get it!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=eFelEIUddto

Received all the parts today, motor is just about pulled but ran out of daylight. Will finish pulling it tomorrow. I'll tell you what, this thing is kicking my butt! Every nut and bolt just pack with grease, motor and truck all greasy, wish I would have degreased it first! Found a cherry picker on sale for $129.00 at Northern Tool

The Boat Anchor!

Took the hood off like you guys suggested. Made things easier for sure!

Not sure if these motor mounts will be compatible to what I have...We'll see!

How can I post bigger pics?

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

Did you get the 290hp engine? Those ram horns are going to hold you back on some power.
Take the pan off and pull the rod and crank caps off and see what went wrong. Then when you are done put the engine into the back of your truck (when it is running) and drop the block off at your local scrap yard.. They will recycle it. Unless you know someone who wants it..

Yes, I went with the 290hp. Please explain "ram horns"?

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

I wonder if you have a 2" exaust too. 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2" would breath better. The ram horns just don't breath as well. Nothing to worry about right now but maybe in the future you can put an exaust system that will help out more. It will be powerful enough for you i'm sure.

That is what the exhaust manifolds in pics 3 and 4 are called. They are shaped like "ram horns" and the exhaust flow through them is so-so.

The pictures you are taking are only 10kb. You need to take them bigger from your camera. I enlarged this one by 2 but you can see what happens...

Actually, they look fine big. Click on the small picture, and you will see a much bigger one and it's clear.

this is what your engine should look like with a "serpintine" system and coated headders...you won't be dissapointed with the power....

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

Why do you think there is a chain around my drivers side motor mount?

Incase the motor mount broke, the chain might keep it from twisting a bunch?

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

chain. common fix for a common problem in the early years, after years of oil torque and god knows what all they would spperate, lift and destroy your shroud, radiator, fan and pull the throttle WIDE open and ment bad things would happen, better tecnoligy in bonding rubber has solved that problem ..looks good so far!!

Couple of questions, what should I gap the spark plugs to? What do I set the timing to?

Thanks

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

.032 on the gap is what I used to run when I had a Gen SBC

8-10* timing with the advance disconnected and pluged always seemed like a good starting point. Reconnect th advance afterwards.

Re: Damn...Motor Just Blew! Need Advice!

Can someone tell me what the deal is here? There are 8 bolt holes to mount the carb to the manifold? 4 in the front, 4 in the the back? Do I need to use all 8? If I have to use all 8, looks like only allen head bolts with no washers would work? Please advise....
