Re: Opinions on what 6.0L LQ9 into LSx UPGRADES to do??

I am putting one of comp cams LSR cams in. I am considering using a stock ls2 chain as I've read and seen it is a little beefier. It's only about 40 bucks too.

Re: Opinions on what 6.0L LQ9 into LSx UPGRADES to do??

I don't want to do anything to the tranny...that's why I bought a 4L80E in the first place (I have a spare 4L60E and a 700R sitting in my garage that I didn't use for this motor).

This is the cam I'm looking at in detail right now as per Shon's post: www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=1097&sb=0[/url]

54-451-11

but there is also the other one

54-452-11 which is a bit lighter I think??

Re: Opinions on what 6.0L LQ9 into LSx UPGRADES to do??

I think that is a better cam selection. The heads you have now are actually pretty decent heads for a stock application. What you can look at are flow numbers of these heads and find out where they peak and where the most gain is at different lifts. These heads still have a high percentage of flow increase between .500 and .600 lift compared to anything else stock. This means you want to maximize the this increase in flow by helping it out with enough cam lift. The GM hot cam was desigend around the flow of the original LS1 heads which were not designed as well as any of the 6.0 heads. That is a good comfortable lift and duration for a drivable, but still "pick-up-and-go" application. I hope this helps

That 1st would be a decent cam and you should be alright with the stock converter. If it were me and I went with that cam I would probably still get me some yellow springs for insurance, you can use your stock locks and retainers. Heck a Z06 cam might be you best bet.

02 Z06 Cam Specs:
Duration@.050: 205* intake, 219* exhaust
Lift: 0.551 intake, 0.549 exhaust
LSA: 117.4

GM shows this for lift. Not sure of the other spec's
.551-in lift on the intake and .547 on the exhaust.

Re: Opinions on what 6.0L LQ9 into LSx UPGRADES to do??

If it was me.. I'd run something like a 224/228 with comp XER lobes and 918 springs with the truck intake and your current heads milled down a bit. I'd set the intake center to get close to 8.5-1 dynamic compression and run about 10* of overlap. If you need real specs let me know.

This would work great with a stock verter in an 80E.. how do I know?? I once had this set up in my truck with the 80e only it was a Ls1 block with stock LS6 heads. With a stock verter, I was keeping up with a high 12 second F-body at 3,900lbs.

Here's what I'm going to use for springs. They may be overkill for a smaller cam, but i think it's an excellent price for a full upgrade.

Re: Opinions on what 6.0L LQ9 into LSx UPGRADES to do??

Why did you resurrect a 5 year old thread to ask that?
The answer completely depends on what your doing with it and your budget. I suggest taking a look through the advanced search to see what members have been doing. Both are commonly used.
