Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!
What a differnce it makes just blowing the leafs out. Burbs are cool.
I think I would like to take a ride down to your place with Luca when my truck is up and running. I am hoping to have it going by the end of next month. That is if it is road worthy also.

Chief, your Burb looks a lot like mine. Including the wasp nest inside. Extra tires, leaves and asst. other trash.

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!
Thanks man !!
Well, my plan is to do a little (if possible) every day after work. I stopped at the local Walmart, and picked up some supplies .... - I decided it needed a decent set of matching rollers, so my daughter and I cleaned up the stock wheels off the '63 ..... - - - - One of the four cleaned .... - - - - - - I noticed all four wheels have these marks on them ... Are these factory markings ?? - - - - The worst one .... - - - - All clean ... wheels have a nice 'patina' on them () .. if only the body did ... - - - - It looks like the body was originally white, but there is also blue showing. In fact, it looks like they painted the trim (and obviously more) blue at one time. It was late, so I hit one spot with an SOS .... - - - - - - Hopefully tonight, I can give it a nice first bath ...

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!
I took my stock wheels to the shop and busted out my old COATS tire machine ... I've had this old thing for like 25 years ... the air cylnder is getting sluggish, but still works for ol school wheels ... I had some old bias plys laying around. 600-15's , good tread, but cracked. Perfect rollers for now ...
- - - - When I pulled the rear wheels off .... I found this ... - - - The drums and rear shoes were gone...both sides...the shocks were disconnected at the bottom, and swung upward. Probably because they were bottoming out, due to the springs behind heated for days. There is some kind of bag in there too ... (trailing arm previously bent ) - - - - Looks cool ... I grew up building lowriders for people, so here ya go !! - - - - It like PS, with skinny tires ...

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!
I've been getting off late this week, but I managed to catch some light yesterday.
Just using a scotch brite, and soap n water ... I cleaned half the hood and grill ... Looks like a see "white' and the end of the tunnel ... - - - - - - - - - - Are these windshield squirters stock for this GMC ?? -

Thanks Alan .....
- - Yesterday, with the help of my daughter, we managed to removed all the nasty, green, fish tank smell'n green slime .... - - - - While hosing this thing down, I heard water falling in cab. Turns outs, this Burb has ALOT more rot than expected.... - - Pic from under dash...notice water .... - - - - Also, the green goo hid the fact the windhield was cracked... - - - - Can you spot the cute face ?? - - - - All clean... - - - -

Wow what a difference some scrubbin makes. Too bad it revealed some more issues though.

Hey Chief, That upper windshield panel is a good idea..I drilled out the spot welds (88 of them) on mine and was able to clean all up in there..I got mine from Top Banana Too..Now I'm confident theres no rust up there O yea keep scrubbing that primer I'm sure there's patina under there somewhere Burb looks Great.. |

haven't bought that above windshield piece, but I have bought several other pieces from Top Banana, and have had good luck. They're all KeyParts/Tri plus.

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!
As I pull parts, various areas will need attention. From cleaning to rust proofing to actually steel replacement ... will be done before going back together.
- - The immediate plan for this burban, is to do a driveable resto-job on it. Get it running right away....Then slowly perform all the need rust repairs, while still using it as it was intended. Future plans, will include a frame swap...then a FULL resto will happen. Also, I decided against the 4.3 Vortec swap for one reason. The engine's harness/ECM is already set up for running all the O2's and cat for my Zuk. I dont want to have it rework/reflashed for the burb, then reworked again back to smog. So for now, unless a V8 shows up soon, I'm gonna borrow the 63's 292. - - - Considering how bad this was...the lower bolt actually came all the way out...even was partially sealed - -
