Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I agree with you there Mr, the metal work of the interior in the burb looks very nice. Are going to show the painted metal inside or cover it with any fabric.
Will follow this as I do with your C-10
Ps. My Norwegien is way better than my English wrighting

We are going to leave as much metal as possible. The floor will have carpet and seats cushions upholstered but I like the metal. I am glad you are using your english because my Norwegien sucks

We are getting back on the Suburban today. We just burned up 10 days on the frame for the 69 c10 p/u. We are getting the motor put together so we can drive it to the paint booth. It is primed and ready to paint.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I have been fiddling around with the motor a little bit. I had been waiting for a few things to show up from Summit and they arrived yesterday so we started bolting some stuff on. I decided to paint the block silver because I thought it might look nice with the chrome. We are still on track to paint the suburban silver so it won't hurt for the block to match. The firewall and inner fenders are black so it will be a nice contrast. I had the headers laying around the shop as they had been on my Malibu. As I never drove the car the headers had less than 100 miles on them........not that headers have an odometer but you get the point....almost new.

A friend of mine from Indiana has been helping around the shop and he wanted to do some polishing. Unfortunately he declined to use the full face mask I provided him.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I know I have not shown much progress but the motor is in and for the first time in 8 months this truck is moving under its own power. I love the CPP master cylinder but it was the worst part making this truck run. One little bit of air in that rascal and it is dead in the water. I ended up running a new brake line to the rear brakes because they were next to impossible to get going. I bet I bleed the master cylinder 5 times.

You cant see much of the motor but it looks pretty good in the newly painted engine compartment. We still have some detail in there but we are on our way. Going to try to hang some doors and get some paint on it in the next few weeks.

If anybody has any carpet or upholstery ideas let me know. I dont see any Burb carpet so hopefully the pickup truck carpet will work and then I can get some matching carpet in bulk to do the flat carpet work in the back. Seat covers...........I hate to put a custom interior in this truck but I might have to. I am afraid the paint is going to look so good the interior is going to have to be replaced.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I finally have some progress pictures on the burb. This past week we really hit it hard and got quite a bit done. I was waiting to put the dash back in until I had the A/C working. I had a couple unknown wires to figure out and the ductwork to install. We gased it up and we got some nice cold air. Because the interior is silver I thought black would be a nice complement color on the dash. I didn't want to be too crazy with it but I am very happy the way it turned out. I do have one question thought, what do you think about the chrome steering wheel? I almost think it is too much chrome and it needs to be black but looking for suggestions. I am pretty sure we will be painting the exterior door handles black.

On the paint we will be painting from the bottom of the windows to the top a satin black. From the bottom of the windows down (including hood) it will be a semi-gloss or lower luster silver. Not to dull and not too shiny.

Then there is that trailer hitch............should it stay or go????????????

There is another bench seat that sits just in front of the wheel wells. The entire interior is satin silver and I am thinking of doing torch red seat upholstery for the front and rear seats. That is not final but I think it would look cool with the silver.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

Why not paint the steering wheel black and have the outer ring upholstered in red?? Then again maybe it would turn into a floating red ring? I think you right with red interior..

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I know this is a lame picture but I managed to get a fabric sample today for the seats in the burb. A buddy of mine wanted to turn me on to this upholstery dude. I went by to meet him, liked him, and especially liked his pricing. Man have I gotten jabbed before with interior guys. We get to talking about the seats and I tell him I want bright red. He pointed to the only new roll of vinyl in his shop and said check this out. I saw it and I loved it. He said he had just bought it for inventory so I figured the deal was meant to be. And yes frenchblue72 I took my steering wheel ring in to be covered in red too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

It has been a frustrating few weeks but we can only be getting closer to getting the Burb in a paint booth. We have been promised but the owner of the booth is still finishing up a project so still hoping soon!! In the meantime we have been working the bugs out......you know, typical getting everything working again. The BIGGEST trouble so far was the CPP master cylinder. They are beautiful but temperamental. I am sure there are plenty of guys out there with them working but if you google the product there are lots of complaints........probably guys like me who are as experienced. I just could not get the system to bleed right and after a week of trial and error I gave up. I took it out and installed your ordinary chrome master cylinder with proportioning valve and I had the brakes going in 30 minutes.

I got the new bumpers for the truck and they are primed as they are getting painted silver. The biggest excitement of the week is when I picked up the one seat cushion that is finished...........man I LOVE the bright red seats!!! They are really going to pop with the silver. This truck is so close to getting put together!!

Don't worry about the personal bump. I would be excited to show it as well. That interior is really going to pop in there.

Keep up the good work.
