CORSAIR, beautiful truck. What size tire are you running? I am assuming that is a 15x6 wheel.

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
Thanks for the trip down memory lane:
Back in the day. Having pulled, tugged, dug, winched, yanked, jacked, and pushed a few of these vehicles out various situations I had more than one opportunity to see these babies “up close and personal”. I have forgotten how beautiful these vintage vehicles are with the steel wheels of that era. |

It is a real pain trying to find anything for them locally though, every junk yard I've been to looking hasn't seen a 67-72 truck in 10-15 years. Thank god for this site! TTT for some more steel wheeled 4x4s!

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
I just wanted to chime in here and thank all of you folks that have contributed to this Thread so far .... I think what we are seeing here is the true core unique'ness of the 67-72 style and character that GM brought to us back in 'the day'. Proving that even with 'plain jane' steel wheels on 'em ... these trucks hold their own to any truck that has come down the pike since then.
The 'cool factor' that our trucks still hold ... 40 some years later, can't be denied. Thanks again ... and keep those pics and comments coming. 72longbed |

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
I loved that color of green (Emerald?) I had an uncle and two friends that purchased new trucks during that era, they were beautiful inside and out.
If I remember correctly, my uncle’s had a bunch of inlaid scrolling somewhere on the interior trim. |

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
In my opinion, dark green and white is hands down the best color combination on these trucks. Just beautiful! It's the scheme i will paint mine.... eventually

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
Yeah a lot of good looking trucks on this thread. Between looking at ryanmctee's build and others has made me buy a set of 15x8 rims and hub caps to be my second set of rims for original ansen sprints on my truck now.

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
Been doing some research. For those of us interested in WIDE, STEEL, WHITE wheels, with 16" tires, who don't want to have to buy new wheels AND new tires by switching to 16.5" .... I found a company called Wheel Vintiques that has a "Series 82" 16 x 8" white original style wheel that will take our hubcaps. They come powder coated White or Black, your choice.
Part # 82-680804 8 Lug They are not cheap .... I was thinking maybe we do a 'Group Purchase' like we have done on other items? Let me know if anybody else might be interested in purchasing new rims, and I'll do the leg work to negotiate the sale. Thanks. 72longbed |

Good deal, Budman ... let's see how many interested parties we can get.
I'm thinking the more orders ... the better the price .... maybe? Let's hope. 72 |

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
72longbed check out stocktonwheel.com to they can custom make any width, offset, and size factory steel wheel. I was going to have a set made before I found a killer deal on two sets of Kelsey Hays 9.75's. A local guy is trying to get me to sell a set I won't I told him you never know when I'm going to buy another truck lol.

Re: Steel Wheeled 4x4's??
Thanks for the Stockton info, ... but I think having custom wheels made will cost more than buying off the shelf? I could be wrong ... didn't check into it yet. If somebody else on here wants to do a little 'price shopping' , see what they will charge for a 16 x 8" , 8 lug steel wheel that accepts 3/4 ton factory hubcaps, in White powdercoat finish. That will tell the story. I'll bet 160.00 a piece. Where are they located ... California? Shipping?
Check it out and let me know. 72 |
