I'll be honest. I'm mixed on it. The shape matches the hoods lines totally. Great choice. The color is great too. My mixed feeling is seeing the hood scoop first the the V-6 emblem. No offense, but that kinda let the wind out of the sail for me. I hope you are not offended. Your truck is awsome. You're miles ahead of me buddy.

Not offended at all. I was also kinda mixed on putting the emblems back on. And I could still go either way. But, now that it's done, it's done.

OK, here is the set-up thus far. I'm trying to figure out a way to make some sort of assembly that will seal to the hood, but right now I need it driveable because I am taking it to Cali in a couple weeks.

I ordered the filter discs for it but right now I just have mesh screen.

By the way, when you hear carbs suck in air from the scoop, it is just about the most awesome sound you can get!!

You could make a pan with 2 holes that sits on the carbs (where the air cleaner gasket goes) and put a foam or rubber seal around the edge. When you put the air cleaners on it would hold the pan on.

I would but the 97's don't have a gasket area. Those early carbs are 2 5/8" neck and the air cleaners were a clamp on type unit.

The biggest issue with making a plate is that the top of the carb is exactly flush with the hood, as you can see in the pic above. So I may not be able to make any type of seal unless some one has some ideas??

Cort, in this picture, at the bottom of the hose clamp. There seems to be a lip. Is there? And is it substantial enough to maybe rest a plate on top of it?

Just curious, if the holes in the hood were bigger, could you install the chrome filters and still have clearance to close the hood? Perhaps with a different style air cleaners? I really like the scoop cosmetically, but didn't realize it was functional to feed the carbs.

My concern being if the hood is sealed to the carbs, they are going to get drowned in the rainy season. I had a louvered hood on my last car and had to be very selective about air cleaners so my carb didn't get soaked. I also covered the engine with a plastic trash bag every time I washed the car for the same reason.

I would be inclined to open the inside of the hood up as large as the scoop, install filters on the carbs and allow the engine to draw from the scoop or from within the engine compartment.

I can't find the link, but I remember seeing a 60's muscle car where the owner built a removable pan that held the air filter above (inside the scoop) and rubber seals below with drainage built in. It attached directly to the bottom of the hood. The carbs had nothing on top until the hood was closed sealing the system. It might not be all that difficult to dream up something along those lines.

I have some velocity stacks, maybe I'll just cut those down to where they don't hit the scoop when the hood is shut.

Can you tell me exactly what color that is and where you got it?

Thanks! The color is gulf green, it is actually an International color. It was painted by the PO right before I bought it.

Yeah I still have the other '60 hood. Do you mean using pipe to go around the carb tops?

I missed this one somehow........yeah, maybe even using the gas tank to cab gasket as a seal from the hood to the carbs? That might work out pretty good.

OK, I have decided for now just to have the holes in the hood and not make a sealed set-up. So here are some pics of the filter discs (Nevermind they are taped on for now!) I am running and a quick video of how the carbs sound through the scoop!

Sounds a lot like my old 54 Chevy sedan in high school. I always left the air cleaner off as I loved the sound effect, especially when pulling a hill.
