What size tires do you have on the rear of your '65? They appear to be bigger than 275/60's.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

The 66 has 275 60 while the 66 has 285 75. The 285s will rub both the side and front of the fender.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

Here is the rendering for this project. I wanted to keep it really simple looking and let the chassis and motor be the more "wow" parts on the truck.

Let me know what you think, thanks MB

Great start!!! Love the rendering and the color choice! Will you have the shop's logo on the doors?

Thanks .

For SEMA , we will have no logo's on the truck. After the show we will for sure get the doors lettered .

Looking at the rendering it's funny how the lip of the wheels almost looks like skinny white walls. Very Cool

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

So it seems the "32000 mile, factory truck" as the for sale ad read isn't so "factory" Here is a listing of parts I need for the truck, any thoughts on who / where is the best place to purchase these ?

1) windshield ( glass and molding)
2) rear glass and molding
3) all door jamb weather stripping
4) window track fuzzy stuff ( im sure there is a correct term)
5) passenger inner rocker
6) passenger outer rocker
7)passenger lower door pillar
8) both front fenders
9) both bed sides
10) tailgate
11) wheels tubs
12) rad support
13body mounts
14) cab corners

Thanks MB

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

I prefer to purchase my replacement parts from Classic Parts. But beware that the majority of the replacement, patch body parts are made overseas, and as such the quality is hit and miss. Most of the front fenders are of poor quality particularily where they surround the grill. I recenntly read on here from another member that he was quite happy with his replacement front fenders from Goodmark. The exception to that is the tailgate which you can find from Mar-K, and is made in the USA. Recently USA made cab corners have become available from MBGMike who is a Vendor here on the forum as well as Mar-K. They can be found in the 'Vendor Marketplace' here on the forum.

Thanks , I usually build late model projects so I have don't have a lot of suppliers that have parts for the older trucks. Ill start looking these vendors up. Appreciate the leads.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

Its been a slow start but some parts are starting to arrive. The cab has come back from sandblasting as well. Found a few holes but all in ..... its not a bad start.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

I notice somebody switched it out to the 73+ motor mounts also.
But then again, they probably had to for the big block.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

Get the frame level and then pull a dimension diagonally across the frame from a given corner to the opposite corner. Then pull the opposite way diagonally, and if the frame is straight the numbers should be the same both ways.
It's also good to check short portions such as the very front to the cab mounts, and then the very rear to the rear cab mounts.

Re: Starting my 66 "Hay Wagon" build thread.

Been at it hard for a few days . Here are a few progress pics. We have the floors in now, rockers are well under way. Just test fitting doors now as well.

I received my Ididit steering column today. I hope to have all the Porterbuilt parts here tomorrow as well. We went with Nate's 4Link system .... I'm looking forward to seeing this set up.

Thanks,
I notice you ran your new pans up past the factory seam.
I'm thinking of doing the same.
That seam is a water trap.
May I see a pic of that portion from the front?

Thanks,

Looks Good.

I just think it makes sense to eliminate that seam.
One less seam for rust to make its home.
