Re: Rat Rod or Hot Rod?? defintion?? what do you call it

That tells me that the original term "hotrod" is of unknown origin. A lot of great theories though.
The term "ratrod" is a modern term losely used to describe a built to look unfinished, in the works, but driven hotrod.
Since we can make old parts look new, and new parts look old, I don't think it has a thing to do with a guy recycling parts to do a low buck build. I think a guy could build the rattiest rod he could using all new parts. And a guy could restore a pile of old parts to make a shiny flawless hotrod.

I got an idea!
how about we talk about something that actually will have an end to it someday like a how to build thread or something. bottom line is the term rat rod to one person means something else to another and likewise with hot rod or anything else. hell i got a 4x4 blazer but looking at some of the 4x4 blazers on here i got a tonka toy. everyone has their own opinion.

I agree with ya there! The HAMB guys are off the chain!

HAMB rules, but they rule you... They can either be the most helpful group of guys or the biggest assholes. It's great.

Re: Rat Rod or Hot Rod?? defintion?? what do you call it

this is the one we are building! We just call it "fun"!

All custom made one off Chassis, Air ride, many many unique additions. We have built many cars and I would have to say, this one is has been one of the most fun yet! And we are only in the begining! There is ALOT of creativity put in most of these and to top the next guy, you really have to have your thinkin cap on!

We are actually on the South side down in Dickinson. About half way between houston and Galveston.

You ought to make a run up to the 1960 area one saturday for the Nifty 50ees show and cruise. Would love to see some of your rides in person.

We have been up there a couple of times but it has been a while. We have one going on Sats to at the Hooters on 45 that has been doing pretty good. 175 to 300 cars usually. Not quite as big as the one you guys have but they just started few months ago.We havent really been able to go to much lately, been busy on weekends working on hot rods. Plan to take the weekend off though next weekend for Good guys, cant wait!

Re: Rat Rod or Hot Rod?? defintion?? what do you call it

ive seen a couple of them theres this towtruck that i realy like its ugly but it has some nice idea's , there is a forum devoted to them called kill billet dot com or sumtin like that
some of them actually paint the rust on there cars to make it look ratty and worn
my idea of rad rod is either using the bare minimum to get a car to run or an unfinished just started hotrod(project) the only difference in the end is the finish of the car

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts
