Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
It's the brass floats that fail on the sending units, when I changed mine I put in a plastic float instead of the brass one. I think it was one for a jeep...
I think it was this one... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/o...p4waAp8t8P8HAQ Nice blazer, enjoy the process. Rg

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Just noticed the AC vac pod is mounted with the bracket used for 4x4 applications. Maybe 2wd K5s received this also?

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Thank you all for the comments. I have been wanting a blazer for awhile now and I feel good that the search is over. The truck spent it's entire life in Colorado until I had it shipped here to Phoenix. I bought it based on pictures only (probably should have asked for more, lol). It has more rust and other issues then I would have hoped for but it will be a great learning experience for me. My previous trucks were either turn key or needed little work. I will post pictures as I go.

Pulled the gas tank, broke the "u" bolt that mounts the tank and found some rust. If anyone has a replacement bolt let me know, I will buy it. I couldn't find it in the catalogs.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
I got a U bolt for member A1971Blazer. It was in great shape and he even blasted and primed it for me. Also got my new tank and had the original filler neck put on it as recommended. Still need to replace a few of the fuel lines. There are three lines that run to one common tube which is adjacent to the gas filler. Are these for venting? My metal lines are completely rusted and I am thinking about bypassing them with rubber. Anyone see this as a problem?

Going to tackle the body mounts soon as most of them are in bad shape of totally missing.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Yes - the 3 lines are for venting.
Just did the body mounts on my project - they took me a LONG time since they were all rusted solid and the bolts broke. Spraying mine with PB Blaster or Kroil wouldn't have helped since they all snapped when I twisted them. Keep track of the shims and put them back in the same spots when you replace the mounts. You may need to shim more in some spots to help with opening/closing the doors. Last edited by lks dcvn; 07-03-2016 at 03:50 PM. |

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
if you can salvage what is there - I would use those. Rubber lines would be fine since they are a blend of rubber and metal throughout the system.
The venting/charcoal filter isn't required and was only present on late 71 and 72 Do you have a charcoal canister near the battery in the engine bay? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=631087 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=569115 |

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
So I removed all the body mount bolts and ordered new poly mounts. I have read that you can jack up one side, replace the mounts and then move to the other side. Is this the preferred method? Do you have to remove the front clip? I have never done anything like this before so any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Doing one side at a time is the preferred way to keep the body somewhat aligned. No need to remove front clip to replace everything. Nice job - it's not an easy task, but the results are worth it.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
OK got it. Do the core support / front mounts need to be removed? The poly kit I got was for a 4WD and I believe the core support mounts are incorrect for a 2WD so I wasn't going to replace them.

Congrats Brian, looks like a great find. They are diffently some differences in the blazers versus the truck.....
Keep us posted....

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Finally made some decent progress. Totally finished installing the new mounts, gas tank, fuel pump and reinstalled the interior but stripped the driver side seatbelt bolt . After that she fired right up and ran pretty darn good. I was a little nervous because it had been sitting for 3 years, but all was good and I drove it to the tire shop to replace the 23 year old tires. For what ever reason I had to use spacers to install the tires. Maybe it was the powder coating or the wrong wheels, I don't know. Here are a few pics.
