Re: Shimming after swap?

According to my manual you should have the black from the battery to the big terminal, a red to your altenator, a red to the junction block (you call it a resistor), both from the big terminal and the purple wire to the solenoid.
What's this other wire with the eye and where is the one to the hei hooked to?

Re: Shimming after swap?

Hei shouldn't be hooked to the right terminal. It should have it's own red wire from the ignition switch. THat's why your staerter won't quyit running.

Re: Shimming after swap?

THe previous wiring in the other cab likely had a bad ignition run wire that the PO fixed by running to the starter. You changed that and fixed it in the new cab wiring.

Re: Shimming after swap?

It may have the wrong starter drive in the starter seeing as you put a new flywheel and could be different from the old. It probably stays engaged because it's stuck on the flywheel.

Re: Shimming after swap?

One starter come off a 77 c30, one off a 77 c10, and one off a 79k10. All 3 get stuck when starting. Btw geezer my hei plug goes into the firewall harness not starter. Starter wire on right post goes to... Junction on to right side big one. Smaller one goes to alt and firewall, included pic!

Re: Shimming after swap?

This really is a weird problem seeing as you've tried different starters and harnesses, There should be three wires on the starter the battery the cab supply and then the ignition wire which only has power on start. The clicking starter means solenoid no good but it was just working with the other harness. I think you need to chase back the ignition wire to make sure you only have power in start

Re: Shimming after swap?

I wish I were there i could help you out but hard on this side of the computer. I just find it hard to believe it's not the actual starter giving you problems. If you don't have power at the solenoid when in run and when you kick the starter and it click then the wiring is fine, Know what I'm saying?

Re: Shimming after swap?

Well well. With all 77 wiring, STARTER STILL GRINDS!!!!!!! Ugh! Don't think it's the flywheel since it's brand new... What else could make a grinding ugly noise?

Re: Shimming after swap?

it cant be meshing with the flywheel correctly, try shimming the starter down some and see if that helps at all

Try the shims and hopefully that works. I'm hoping at some point I can get my truck out of my garage but winter is coming and the frames not even painted yet
