Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
There is no difference between the two heads. The numbers tell what original mold the casting came from. 243 mold was done at GM Research, the 799 mold is used by other vendors. The same vendor will have 243 and 799 molds. The numbers are just a GM system for when the mold was made. If a head had a problem it helps them track down where the problem started. The only difference between the heads is production variance.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
just remember for the AN fittings they use a 37* flare. brake lines and such use the 45*.
my 45* is a craftsman and i'm really happy with it. right around $80. i had bought 2 cheapo ones from orielly and broke'em both. i'm going to order a summit brand 37* for the an fittings.

I did not know that. Out of the 100+ LS6/LS2s ive seen/worked on they all had a 243 casting number. are the heads production? Or a GMPP part? |

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
I recently bought the mastercool hydraulic flaring tool. It is "THE" flaring tool! The only flare die it doesn't have is the 37 degree and I "may" add it. I bought it just for the GM pushloc flare, everything else is a bonus. Anyone can make a good flare with that tool! It can be found for just under $300 if you look.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
clinebarger
so i did some research on the net, and i think im finding that the 799 was a pre production ls6 head, and the 243 replaced them, but im also seeing some 06 corvettes with the 799 heads as well?? Casting number 799 is also an LS2 head. Came on some late 06 and up tbss and other LS2 vehicles. These are the mexico cast heads. Little rougher finish. Same basic head and flow though. |
