Re: Restomod "good memories"

Visit to body shop on Friday. Cut out the firewall and installed the correct factory A/C opening I scavenged from a wrecked cab. Body work is moving along. Exterior of bed should be in primer by the middle of the week. Will post pics then. The wood body lift on bed is just to make it easier to work on bed and cab. Though truck will probably sit about an inch higher with the new springs, the 40-41.5 inch tires will add another 5" to the ride height. It is really great that Brad lets me work on my truck at his shop. I really wanted to do it all myself but never have done paint and I was concerned about spraying without a booth here in California. An added plus is I can have more input on work done and save some $.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

No pics of progress as I have not been to the body shop. Going to go by tomorrow. Only the owner there and I will be cautious. Found this pic yesterday going through some stuff. My dad helping me out. Probably around 1982-83

Re: Restomod "good memories"

My wife has been on my case about going to the shop, rightly so as she is a RNP. I did run over today though. Bed is in primer, tailgate almost ready for primer and left/right rockers and kick panel repairs stitched in. Did not do much my self. Just rebuilt the door hinges with new pins and bushings obtained from the parts board.

I misplaced one of the doors and will have to look for it. If I can find it they are yours for shipping cost.

This build is gonna be awesome. That LSA is an animal. I spend a bunch of time on a certain 5th Gen Camaro forum when I’m not around here. I’ve been gathering parts for a cam swap and LSA conversion to my 2010 SS. It looks like you had a really clean starting point.

Thanks! Doing a few bolt ons, cat delete, blower spacer, headers, etc. Gilmer belt drive, I am using a 10% overdrive. Hopefully get few extra pony's with the dyno tune.

That looks like medium (aka Hawaiian) blue - see my Blazer build link in the signature below as it's the same color. I get a lot of compliments on the color.

Heck yea. That should run really good. I bet you can get close to 600 to the wheels depending on how much boost you run. I’m shooting for 650 in mine when I do the swap. I’m gonna run a decent blower cam and 2” headers in mine when the time comes.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Did some work today. Cut and capped the front fenders for more tire clearance. Oddly found some rust through on the left fender cap. Cut it out and made a patch. Still need to finish weld.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Know it is not stock. But I want the "Chevrolet" in main body color. Have a decal set. Was thinking of pasting them to painters tape and cutting out. Is there a better way to do this? Cannot not find a stencil or removable decals. Saw the paint and sand off option. Painter says no way, to much risk.

Your Blazer looks super nice! Still leaning towards original Med Bronze. My dad's truck was blue. That is why I am considering it.

Paint and sand off for sure. Its real easy.
Apply one extra cost of paint on the gate because you will be sanding it and dont want to cut through.
Use a touch up gun adjusted to a very small round pattern, lightly fog in the blue letters.
Let dry and wet sand off the haze of blue around the letters then polish.

Thanks! You can’t go wrong keeping it original or at least another original color. Mine is 510 blue.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Have to decide on color early next week. Original bronze and white or the med blue and white. Parts in booth for final primer and passenger door with new skin to have body work. Swinging by tomorrow to write another check.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Ran by the shop today. Not to much exciting to see. I blasted my hood hinges to ready for epoxy. Saw the painter blocked the entire truck again and is going to spray another coat of epoxy primer. He is ordering paint and will be jamming it soon! Ordered my Deaver leaf springs for the rear from a local 4x4 shop. He saved me a bit from direct prices and I should be able drive down and pick up to save $100+ in shipping. Also ordered shackle hangers and shackles from Blitzkrieg off road. Both orders should arrive and be able to pick up by the time I get the truck back.
