Totally agree you can see my son grinding in one of the pictures lol.. he'll get involved no problem. Thing is he's 6 and would rather play catch and color lol. Can't say no to that.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
Ya I know what you mean, I have twin girls and a wife that "puts up" with my obsession quite well but she isn't interested, not really even in riding along. My girls though always came out to see what cool car I was working when a friends or customers and only work on cool old iron so would let them carefully sit in them and see what it is about. Now both @ 17 years old have all the boys talking to them about the stuff their Dad works on and of course they got to drive my trucks so pretty cool for them. Just takes time for both, your right on that. Glad family comes first for you too.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
I like the fact you were able to farm some of the work out for now, will get done a lot quicker, will be interesting to see more of it come together. Always been one of my most favorite trucks, have had over 125 hotrods of some kind, trucks 2wd and 4wd and a lot of muscle cars but never had a Blazer or Jimmy yet.

I am a newb when it comes to fiberglass, but I would try to fix it. Hatch looks pretty strait and if you were able to get it removed and layed out, you could clean out the cracks and clamp it together when you lay in the resin and fiber. The patch you did looks great BTW.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
Thank you. I'm about done with the repair and will hopefully shoot primer on it Friday morning. The outside I smoothed and the inside I'm going to leave textured. That made it tuff becuause the repairs on the inside were blocked smooth so I had to 're texture it. We'll see how it turns out. Im still up in the air on what color to do the top, white or the color of the truck.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
So I was going to not be so thorough and just "get er done" but when I primed it, it looked worse then I thought. Here are some pictures. I'm going to step away from it till tomorrow and see how I feel then.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
This is the prep.. 'll paint it next weekend. If you're wondering about the inside its in better shape.. the patches I did on the rear hatch look good. I was told that if its not structural the body filler will hold up fine.. time willwill tell.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
@ NOTSOLO I used 80 grit sand paper and a soft block to hand sand all the exterior. Then I primed it and just went 220grit to 320grit to 400grit and that's where its at now she's not perfect but I'm not too worried about it. Thanks

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
Its been a wile since I've posted.. my blazer was at a shop that turned out to be a flop. The guy seemed to turn out some good paint jobs but as is everything in life things are not always what they appear. The guy had my blazer for two months before I decided to cut my losses. Now its at home and I'm back at it. Here are some pics

After seeing this I brought it home. The last one I started to grind it down and fill the holes he left behind.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
I had some time this past weekend to work on it. Keep in mind I'm no pro nor do I claim to be this is my first build and I'm still learning to weld.

Re: New to this site, check out my ride II
I am self taught welding too, except a few pointers from a buddy years ago and a lot of reading on tricks. Takes a lot of practice, remember better to practice on your friends truck, can always get a new friend right.
