Re: '72 gmc
It is always great to see shiny paint on parts you’ve worked your tail off to prep.

Re: '72 gmc
Thanks guys.
It looks like progress is going to slow down for awhile. I won't be getting everything back from paint for a couple weeks. He is cutting & polishing after he gets all the color on. I ordered the wood bed material from my local hardwood retailer today. I decided to go with Sapele. Has anyone used that as a bed material? Here's a pic I found online.... |

Re: '72 gmc
Started the sanding process today on the cab and pieces that were painted last week. Nothing more I can do to the chassis until the cab goes on....

Re: '72 gmc
Finally picked up the bed from paint today. I also picked up the new driveshaft. When I test fit it (before I painted it) I found out the rear section was too long. Back to the driveline shop tomorrow to get it cut down........
I also noticed that since the truck is now about 6" lower than stock, the stock carrier bearing bracket held the driveline too low to ever get good balance. I had to cut it up and re-build it to raise the front section of driveshaft higher (about 2.5"). |

Re: '72 gmc
Thank you!
Finished the wood this weekend and got it loosely put back in. Want to get some stuff done on the chassis before the bed goes on. Hoping to get it back on the truck in the next couple weeks. |

Re: '72 gmc
Took a few days off.....
Back at it now. About ready to finish up the brake lines and got the tailgate back from paint after the white background was painted on. I'm impressed how sharp the lines turned out. |

That's definitely a good paint shop. Someone is taking pride in their work. Truck is looking amazing.

Re: '72 gmc
Test fit the radiator today. Upper rad brackets won't fit. Going to build an aluminum cover that will hold it in place. Other than that, fit great.
Got the pedals and vintage air & condenser in. No problems there. The vintage air kit didn't come with kick panel vent plugs, so had to build them out of metal. They'll be covered up in the end anyways. |

Re: '72 gmc
Finally got the bed back on the truck. Couple minor issues; my leaf drop shackles are rubbing the wood and I'll have to adjust and, I had my exhaust intstalled too high over the rear end. It going to be about 3/8" from my bed wood. Im not sure how hot the pipes will get back there, not sure how Im going to handle that just yet.
I also had to shim the front of the bed about 5/16" and shim the rear of the cab about 1/8" in order to get everything to plane out. |

Re: '72 gmc
Wow...a lot of wiring goes into an LS motor install. I have professional help in putting this together, and I appreciate the patience it takes to make the electrical look clean (hidden).
Decided on the panel install under the center console. Should have the engine harness installed tomorrow and then to begin on the rest. Ordered the Highway 15 harness. Pretty sure that panel can be installed under dash. The area under the dash gets cramped with the Vintage air, ducts, air controller, radio, etc. |

Custom radiator support/cover. Going to be powdercoated when the cold air intake tube is welded up and ready to go with it.

Re: '72 gmc
Make sure to plan out your circuits before you start on the Highway 15 install. I had a similar set up and used a Highway 22 as it had more circuits for the EFI, electric fans, fuel pump, etc. Either way, the highway series mounts nicely in the factory location. You will have to get a little creative on how to mount it and keep the firewall clean. Send me a PM if you want some pics.
