I'm all for doing what you want with these trucks and it is entirely up to the individual what they choose. I was burned in a gasoline fire when I was 8 years old, mine will never have an in cab tank.

As that I was never a fan of the tank inside either, this what I did, since I had the room, Had this custom made out of stainless that I had, for around $200.00

I recently replaced my in cab fuel tank. Eventually I'm going to relocate it but I need to decide if I'm going EFI or not. No reason to make that move right now since my tank is brand new. Have been contemplating a Vortec upgrade but that seems super costly.

@ glider, that is a really nice setup. I have been looking at in bed tanks for a few years now but at over $1,000, it is a bit much to come up with. I need to do something, 20 gallons just isn't enough when I am pulling my trailer.

I know this post is old but I used to date a girl and her aunt , uncle and cousin all died in a 1972 chevy truck in 1987 in Glasgow Ky. They was T-boned right in the driver cab side on 31 E south of Glasgow - the tank didn't explode but it busted and fuel soaked all of them. They burned up in the cab. The truck was an orange and white long bed with white spoke wheels. Ill never forget it. I believe when its your time its your time but this accident happened and I don't have to prove anything to anyone.

I'm still waiting for a reply to my original question-specifically: Do all the relocated gas tank kits only allow you to fill from the bed, or is there a way to route to the original 'side location' where the tank was inside the truck?

I'm would like to be able to show you what I am doing on my 72 short bed right now because I didn't like the idea of the fuel receiver being in the bed but iam having trouble uploading pictures I went to the wrecking yard and got the whole filler Assy. From a 2002 silverado and put it in the left side panel any way let me try again to post some pics.

I worked on a 67 C-10 last week that the customer had left the factory filler neck in the cab and ran a pipe thru the back of the cab to the rear mounted gas tank. In my view it could have been made alot cleaner. But it worked and still had the old school look. Now I let my wife make the choice to move the tank for me. It made her feel safer in the truck and it gave me the option to get a better stero system. So to each there own. its your truck. Do what "YOU" want.

I'm not sure what brand I know that the sender isVDO the PO had started this and the mounting was wrong etc. any way it is a square 22 gallon stainless steel tank and it fits nice in between the fram on my 72 I'll get a pic of the rear but it does not hang down too far in my opinion

Flame war aside, I'm just trying to find an answer to my question, which is why I even responded. What it sounds like by the responses is that *no* conversion kit allows the tank to be in the back but route the filler back to the cabin where it's originally located.... :-/

There probably isn't a kit for that as it's such a rare thing. Kits are going to exist for common things in order to make selling the kit worth the trouble.

If your truck is a fleetside, I'd think you could do it yourself.

If/when I do it, I want it to come out the side of my left wheel fender (I have a stepside).

there is no "Kit" for that but there is somebody here was working on that a while back, he mocked it up using white pvc pipe and drilled a hole in the lower back wall of the cab and ran the pipe back to the rear mounted tank, i have no idea if it was ever finished, no idea how well the gas may have flowed ect.

If i ever tried that it would be with using exhaust pipe, the pipe leaving the cab would have to be higher than the inlet on the tank, plus the burp hose could be a problem if it was not also in a direct line and with no dips for any gas to pool up in it. I'm not convinced it would be a good idea, it may be better if you must retain the stock filler location to mount a saddle tank on the outside of the frame under the bed.

Ya, I did. Was looking for something not quite so drastic. Would like to relocate the tank, but not if I have to cut into the bed and/or close the original hole. Was looking for a kit that allowed me to reroute the tank but keep the originality of it....

Thanks though, I'm sure it'll look awesome when you're done!

I'll leave mine in the cab. If there's a leak simply get a new tank. I am. I understand Spectra is a great tank and think I've read where they bolt right in. Besides, if I wreck my truck enough to blow the tank up then I don't want to live anyway.........JK.

What about using one of the burst-proof polyurethane tanks? Titan, for example, has them all the way up to 50 gallons. The geometry is designed for various newer trucks, but I'd be curious if anyone has installed one in a C/K? The idea of an extra large, non-metal tank appeals to me.

I'm going to relocate my tank when my truck is ready, but it seems to me the location is prime for a rupture if you get into a rear end collision which is far more common then side impact which mostly happens in red light T-bones. I guess at least you have a chance to get out of the truck before gas is on you being under the truck.
