I will tell you even though it was an unrestored, original mileage truck, it had been repainted at one time. The poor repaint, along with some minor cancer prompted the repaint/restoration. The truck was painted back in the late 80's/early90's and did not show well at all. It was repainted the original orange/white, but unfortunately the material quality and workmanship was very poor. Nothing was removed for the repaint, all the side moldings, handles, emblems, rubber etc had over spray from the mask and spray job. Very sad. In addition, the old man had brushed on orange and white paint in various spots to help preserve the truck. The lower portion of the door jambs were all painted with a brush, same for the drip rail, bottoms of the inside of the door corners, the core support, front inner wheel wells, bottom of the hood etc. The truck looked decent going down the street, but up close, the paint was in really bad shape and really took away from the truck in my opinion.

To each his own when it comes to a restoration. What one may love, another will hate.

Thank you for the positive feedback on the restoration. I appreciate it, as it was a ton of work and time.

Miles
Were you able to show the old owner what you did to preserve it? Obviously he cared a lot about it!! I'm sue he would be thrilled, very nice job!!

By the way, the bed bolts are actually polished stainless from Mar-K. I was surprised at their length, as they could use a trim. The original camper mirrors and chrome sport mirrors are included in the sale. The new owner can decide what the want, as I know some prefer the camper, as opposed to the sport.

Don't take it personally, no single restoration appeases every faction on this board. It's not possible.

I had a mix of bolts from Totally Stainless and Mar-K and some were really long (forget which, I guess the Mar-K ones).

Very nice looking truck!

Thumbs up Re: the cleanest K20 that ive seen for sale

After working out the details with Miles, it's coming to Indiana! I have a few treasures I'll add to it (NOS black steering wheel, NOS DG4 mirrors, a set of extreme-bend tow hooks).

You should throw the hooks in with the Blazer

Well bought. But do me one favor and swap out those rear hubcaps for some with blue bowties and it will be perfect

The eBay ad stated that the hubcaps didn't go with it anyway.

Re: the cleanest K20 that ive seen for sale

Very clean, looks like mine!

One thing you're not accounting for: my plan was to restore to this level, which I did. Then I plan to sympathetically drive it, even in the rain if I have to, but never abuse it.

Why? I want to know what it's like to own a brand new 1970 truck, more or less. Now that I have it sorted out, I've done a very slow-motion version of the "go back in time and order the truck you wanted and hide it someone to find it 45 years later" fantasy.

But that brings up another point - this truck looks spectacular, but it takes several hundred miles usually to get all of the little things sorted out, unless you're a pro at this.
Obviously the factory didn't, but they assembled things with jigs and forethought!

Re: the cleanest K20 that ive seen for sale

All I can say is WOW!! The truck was delivered today and I'm very impressed with everything so far!! The fit and finish are truly remarkable! The truck started and ran perfectly! Every light and gauge worked, etc!! This is an absolute KEEPER!! I spoke with Miles (the restorer/builder) and shared my complements. Starting with a great truck helped but the attention to detail is really stunning! I have a short list of additions/modifications I plan to do but I'm very lucky to have found such a great truck!! The photo below is before even washing it following it's 2,000 mile journey. Definitely the best truck I've owned.

I love those blue California plates. Also, the under-dash attention to detail is incredible.

I have an NOS black steering wheel I'll put on (existing wheel has some cracks). I have a set of extreme-bend tow-hooks to put on (I have to have them blasted and powder-coated). A set of NOS DG4 (stainless below eye-line) mirrors will be put on. Tailgate letters will be painted red. I have a restored AM/FM I'd like to install. Also have a set of dog-dish center caps coming.

Congratulations! Truly a beautiful truck!

72Cheyenne deserves an attaboy for that one as well! I drooled over that one online, but my wallet kept running away. It's hard to justify when you look at it online, but when you start adding up what it takes to go to that level, it's worthwhile. If I had the cash to do buy it already done, it would be awesome. Unfortunately, part of my therapy is to do the wrenching too.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

That sounds like some real nice upgrades! I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping you'd keep the stock look. This is one of my favorite trucks I have seen here...
