Re: build of a 1966 c-20 custom camper

Looking good, lots of great progress. Really good feeling when it's all apart and off to be recondioned, knowing you get to start putting it back together soon.

Find any neat stuff on the frame, clips ...etc. finishes, markings, and brake line fittings.

Going to replace the brake lines, and keep them original looking? Any specific company that does good original lines.

Always fun to watch your work, Yelmer! Can't wait to see the pieces painted. Did that truck have a 4.57 or 4.10 rear end?

Looks great Mike ! Question , what plan do you have for re mounting the rear cab mount to frame ? I've been talking to a couple guys about riveting brackets like these back in place on these trucks. Apparently the rivets are available, although I haven't looked for them yet.

Re: build of a 1966 c-20 custom camper

I used a big old sledge hammer and drilled the size of the rivet about 5/8" head in the head of the hammer. Don't drill in the center drill it needs to be offset then i drilled the end of 1"X 8" long round stock I used 5/8" bit fit my rivets. I had a friend hold the sledge hammer on the mount side I used the 1" driver and sledge on the inside of the frame

Re: build of a 1966 c-20 custom camper

The frame looks very nice, what level gloss did you use for power coating on frame? I like some gloss as it cleans a lot easier.
Great detail on the transmission.

Re: build of a 1966 c-20 custom camper

Looks great, coming along really very nice!!
How are you doing your bolts, using originals and recoating them with cad, black zinc, etc?
On '64 will likely use original bolts with ceramic coating, not original but seams to stand up well and is a hard coating, not damaged by installation. Not original purpose of ceramic coating, however, works. Needs to be done under controlled conditions.

Some more close-up photos would be nice too. Frame clips for brake lines, wire harness, emergency brake cable, etc. Would like to see if they changed during the years or stayed the same.

Re: build of a 1966 c-20 custom camper

Mike,

The engine and drive train looks outstanding, thanks for sharing. The green/blue for the 327 is much cooler then 283 Navy gray!

Did you clear coat your drive shafts?

FYI, On '64 K10: drive shaft u-joints caps have the same orange inspection markings too, along with yellow on the yoke and shaft up to slip connection.
