Re: new guy new project

sweet deal on the springs!
I'd say keep the truck and the frame untill you gather up everything or you will be paying for alot of parts you just sold.
Shipping would probably real high on that 5 lug front, If you didn't already know you can use 73-87 spindles on your truck as long as you use the same balljoints and outer tierods. or you can swap the whole engine/suspension crossmember into your frame, I believe you need to drill one hole for that swap. theres alot of info about these swaps on here if you do a search. Im sure you have plenty of cheap parts trucks available in TX just like we do in OK.

Re: new guy new project

thats what im doing, well im using 2.5" drop spindles that I got a sweet deal on from doing a little trading with john@brothers. there are 2 different versions of the spindles though one for 1.25" HD rotors and one for 1" rotors, I'm using the 1.25" thinking bigger is better. I believe the 73-79 or 80 were standard equipment 1.25" brake rotors and it was optional through 87 with 1' rotors as standard equipment. Thats what i have read anyways. If your on a tight budget and happen to find a cheap parts truck (73-87) that was well taken care of you can save quite a bit if the suspension is in good shape and the brake are good, rotors can be turned instead of buying new ones, and also using the calipers as well. Just buying new Moog balljoints and outer tie rod ends will set you back over $200 then theres new wheel bearings, brake rotors, calipers, brake lines....you get the point.
one other thing make sure you get a disk/drum prop valve since the stock drum/drum prop valve will leave you with some nasty squishy front brakes, the disks require different pressure than drums. then when your done with the parts truck sell whats left and scrap the rest . $

Re: new guy new project

Ok look out I got some updates, trade the 69 for a 67 lwb and it is in pretty awesome shape cant believe they traded but they did. The cab and the front clip r near perfect in my eyes from what i had. The fenders have no rust holes the core support no rust holes the cab corners no rust hole etc. It does need rockers thou. Also the frame is a 72 so now I have power brakes, 5 lug, power steering. Also the cab is a a/c cab. The motor is 350 and looks to be in pretty fair shape. Gonna go through it and and do some upgrading later.

Re: new guy new project

Nice deal! A lot of nice parts with that one. On the extra parts your best bet is craigslist locally....especially on the bigger parts.

Re: new guy new project

i got sick of dealing with none running projects and wanted something that i could drive and work on at the same time that way i wouldnt get bored with the project. this one is in pretty good shape its a 72 swb, drove 6 hrs round trip to pick it up. it has some rust in the normal areas but its seems minor compare to the other trucks but the truck has no bondo or body work done to it. the bed is in great shape. just got the carb rebuilt and it needs a new gas tank and fuel lines they were rusted pretty bad. so far the motor sounds pretty good its just a stock 350 it has flowmasters on it. the trans is a stock 3 speed converted to the floor. took my boat gas tank and some new fuel lines and filters and fire it up so i can get everything tune right till i get a tank. the motor has a oil leak so im gonna get it pulled out and put all new gaskets and oil pump and water pump and drive til it blows. lol gonna try and drive it today may post a video tomorrow.
