With that said I would go for a shiney paint because I think more people like that. I would also go with an inexpencive color since you will just be selling it. Not black because black shows every blemish in the body work. It I were in that situation I'd throw red on it so it screams hot rod. That should bring in some buyers.

I may also be bias since I am painting mine red. Mine isn't a hot rod (stock) so it will look like this.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

Every single shiny paint job will show everything and anything. You like the black and the olive green, so why not do the fenders in black and the body and grill in the green. Instead of gloss go semi-gloss, the semi will show less obvious marks than full gloss will and it will set it apart from the other thousands of trucks out there.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

I don<t like olive drab it looks washed out.I tried it on my 42 Willys jeep. I ended up painting it Marine drab,It is a darker color. It looks like flat Forrest green it is the color on the ammo boxes
Drab colors seem to fade faster than gloss and semi gloss colors because of the powder used to kill the gloss.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

I agree with BigDan. I would paint the body flat Olive Green and paint the fenders flat black. That would be a great looking combination. If you painted some shop truck lettering on the truck doors that would finish it off.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

hey, whatever happened to all the high-fives for orange! () Here's a flattie for ya.

But I know you don't want orange - just had to show it tho. If flat green and black are the options - I vote dark green - i.e. like a faded original paint job. NOT o.d. green unless you're actually trying to make it military-looking. I think the tan paint above would look sweet in suede - or maybe tan with black fenders/steps?? Hmmm.

Also keep in mind - a "good" flat paint job is every bit as much work as a shiny paint job. And while VERY minor flaws may be covered up, anything above that will not, generally speaking, should take same amount of work/prep as a non-rubbed-out gloss job.

I can't wait to see this thing! And, btw, that burb above is beautiful!

I also posted some blacks and greens and black/green or whatever combos for ref. They ALL look good to me! (2 posts to put them in)

Greetings Red, How's things DownUnder?

Since you're "obsessed" with that beautiful Suburban I'll tell you the owner told me it is painted 1936 Ford Cordoba brown (though I THINK Cordoba "Tan" is actually the correct name). The steelies are from the WheelSmith I think here in SoCal. He didn't know the name of their color but it was one of their standard powdercoat colors and they were a sort of butterscotch to me. The photos do not do it justice. It was simply fantastic.

Ok I wasn't even thinking about orange on my truck but the orange one you posted has completely changed my mind. I would love to know what color that is.

I will be starting a build thread very soon on my 54 and I have been struggling with color choices, but know longer I love the look of the second truck in flat orange. Will be making a trip to my paint store to look at single stage oranges that I can add flatner to.

Fresh flat black will probably sell faster than OD green which I think would have a very limited market. A guy looks at a flat black truck and he either likes it that way or sees it as having the potential to paint any color he wants. Looking at Od Green or a tinted primer tends to turn a lot of potential buyers off as they may not be able to visualize painting over it as they would if it were flat black.
Right now it looks like my truck did in Texas for a couple of years before I moved back up here.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

it seems to me that most, NOT all, flat black trucks I see out there seem "unfinished". In other words, it takes a little extra effrot in my book to make a flat black truck seem "done". Don't get me wrong, many have done it (see Markeb01's GMC in the 60-66 section, BEAUTIFUL truck!)

For some, it's hard to shake the idea that a suede black isn't just a truck waiting for a paint job because so many of us grew up primering in flat black.

Now, I DON'T mean to say I don't like suede black trucks - I really like them - but I also think it has to be a certain kind of truck - i.e. NOT a stocker - would need to be a hot rod or modified, etc. Also like them when they are lowered with some nice pinstriping.

But for me - color wins - just personal pref. They all look good.

Re: Opinions Needed On Color Choice

I also think it's how the flat black is done. I like flat black but people do it so many different ways if it's done with a bomb can or tinted primer after being in the sun for a while it tends to get a gray or white chalky look to it. I like flat black when it is a single stage paint that has been flattened.
