Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
Yeah, there are some wheels available that are nice. I wish someone would make old style custom wheels. Sometimes you see too much of something and it goes away. Then after a long enough time, you'll see it again and in a whole new way. I mean, what's so terrible about a dang white spoke wheel anyway? Now don't everybody go out and buy them all at once or they'll get ugly just as quick, again
I sold that truck I showed 5-6 years ago to a friend. First thing he did was take off the wagon wheels and put on alloy 16.5 x 8.25s. They were older (90s), so didn't look too bad. It's been all the way down and back up to close, if not ready, for panel painting and assembly. This shop has had it since about 6 months after he got it. It will have 16 x 8 steelies with hubcaps when it's done. It will be original colors. Here's another picture since you said you liked it and I miss looking at it: I had 16.5 steelies in 9.75 and 8.25, 8.25 turbines, and 9.75 slots. I had 37/12.50 Swampers on the narrower steelies for that K/20, kept them for the '72 K3500, then decided to go smaller and sold those and the lift. I had a all four spring 6" lift, the wheels were 16 x 10s, and the tires were 315/75-16 Pro Comp Xterrains

Not to get away from the wheel topic, but your K20 is my all-time favorite, It sucks you don't still own it, but I do appreciate the pics and info on it.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
Thanks! I'm really thinking on the white spoke wagons. I have a 6" all spring lift installed. I'd go with 16x10 wagons with 35's. Hard to go wrong with white wagons for the looks/price.

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
I'm building a set of 17 x 9" wheels based off the 16.5" Chevy 8-lug center.
17" is the new 16.5"..... there are a lot of tire choices in a 17" size that just aren't available in the smaller diameters anymore. I'm definitely NOT a fan of the new "big wheel, small sidewall" craze.... and I like that I will end up with a white painted wheel with a factory hubcap!!! -G

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
How long have the 16x10 wheel vintiques wheels been available? When I called them for some for my 72 they said they weren't doing 16x10's due to the lack of demand for them. Dang my luck! I already went with 16.5's

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
Yes I tried to order direct from WV as well but it was still cheaper going with Summit and they used to have the option white PC .

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
i got my 16x10 WV's in 14'. I'll definitely use them again. I'd get a set that wasn't powder coated yet and do it on my own. The powder coat they use was kinda thin but what do ya expect for mass production.

I picked up a set of "drop valley" 17" hoops from Stockton Wheel. The O.D. Of the Chevy center is about .060" too small to work as-is. Also, the wheels come with quite a bit of offset built into them.... So you either end up with a wheel with around 5.5"-6" of backspacing, or maybe 2" backspacing if you built them as a "deep dish" backwards setup. That's a TON of leverage working against the stock wheel center though, I'm not sure I'd be willing to drive a truck set up like that. -G

Re: Old School 4x4 Wheels
Too bad you can't get a 4"-5" back space on those hoops. I guess the trick is to center with having that .060" overall play

By the time to look at the flange width of the stock center (less than 1" wide) and calculate how far you can move it in or out while still maintaining good contact... there's only about 3/8" of adjustment. Here's the "flat" area you have to work with (as measured with the back of the wheel laying flat on the workbench: And here's the 16.5" flange itself: -G
