Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

i'll admit i'm not a huge fan of the long bed, but i have seen some that really stand out...and yours is one of them! aside from personal preferences, what i really enjoy is seeing trucks like yours staying in the family...nothing like those memories you'll share with Grandpa...and it's so awesome to see one in survivor condition...i gotta save some pics of that interior....keep up the great work, & definitely keep us posted on the progress

Thanks twiggy. Yeah I think thats probably a common narrative on this board. It's usually a dad or a grandpa that installs the love of vehicles in us. Your truck is looking killer. I've been following your build for awhile. Would love to have done a complete frame off like you but there's not much rust & I really wanna drive the truck as much & as soon as possible. Someday I 'll get around to that.

Thanks man! I'm definitely glad that I was able to do a body-off but I probably wouldnt have messed with it if the truck wasn't so bad off. But I'll be able to take it back out one day soon.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

Yeah I felt the same way about long beds but have seen a few that really looked great. I appreciate that you dig how it looks. I'm Excited to be making progress & it's always good to get positive feedback.

i don't mind the longbeds in these years. i think it's the trucks tall cab that balances out the longer bed.

very nice ride you have there too

Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

We'll have to share notes about the stereo installation. I plan to to roughly the same thing with a fiberglass enclosure/amp rack behind the seats and speakers with kick panels. I won't have as much bass as you when it's all said and done, but the concept will be the same. I'm new to fiberglass, but it looks like it will be a fun project.

The truck looks great! What a great gift from your grandfather. It's great to have that family story.

Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

That's a nice solid truck and it's great to have family history. Gramps is stoked I'm sure. ...though I can just see him shaking his head at the prospect of lowering it. LOL
Do I see a hint of a surviving gas tank cover in there behind the seat? not too many of those still intact. If it is indeed still there and fairly whole, would you mind grabbing some shots of it from both sides? I'm collecting as much info as I can on exactly what they were supposed to fit/look like when new, so that we can all benefit from a FAQ on the subject of replacement. Thanks and have fun.

A family member found this cool photo of the day my Grandpa bought the truck in 1984 at an auction. It had belonged to a family friend who put it up for auction. I love this picture. I was in 3rd grade when he bought it.

Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

Thanks for all the compliments y'all! coming from fellow truck guys who know whats up makes it mean that much more. I'm actually gonna make a photo album for my Grandpa of the trucks transformation. It'll be old photo's of it on the farm & photo's of when he'd drive it in our hometown's parades & from the day I pulled it from the barn until the finished product. Then I'll get some photo's of him & I in the truck together. I think it will be a neat thing to share with him.

Update Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

It's been a long time since I updated but a bunch has been accomplished.....or at least a lot of work has been done. First off I lowered it about 6 inches up front about 5 out back. Still need to C notch the rear before I can get her level. Put on 4 wheel disc & put in the new clifford performance cam. Still have yet to put on the new intake & headers but that will be done asap.

I’m not always a fan of lowered trucks, but IMHO the current stance is far more attractive and contemporary looking with the original height. I really like everything you’ve done to your truck.

Have you driven it enough yet to have an opinion on the new brakes and Clifford cam?
