Re: New Mirrors!

I had square mirrors. They vibrated so much I couldn't use them. Switched to round mirrors. Much better. They still vibrate, but not any where near as much as the square ones. Same mirror mounting post by the way.

Thanks guys, and sorry, I already tossed the old ones. They were in pretty bad shape and I have no space for anything right now.

I bought those ones too. They look nice but vibrate like mad, and make this weird whistling noise.

Haha! I'll have to test the mirrors this weekend. When I change the starter I just might be the newest member of your club.

Re: New Mirrors!

I have the whistling mirrors too. I am so glad I am not the only one. It only does it when the windows are down though. Unfortunatly I live in texas and the windows stay down pretty much all the time.

Re: New Mirrors!

I bought those same mirrors also but haven’t installed them yet.

So please tell me, how in the heck do you get to the inside of the door and hold the backing plate in place while your attaching the mirror from the outside???!!

I just mounted it with big sheet metal screws. I figure that I have five other holes from my old "tent" mirrors, so whats another three. Wait, you got a backing plate? Do you have a picture? I did not get a backing plate. I was thinking it was strange to pack machine screws with no nuts for the other side.

Re: Whistling Mirrors solved

I know this is an old post but I thought I would share how I solved my "whistling Mirror" problem. I remembered reading about this several months ago.

My solution was I smeared some clear silicone on the outside of the rubber seal and metal housing. It seemed to take care of it.

I attached a couple pictures, its a little hard to see what I actually did, especially since it is clear silicone.

Re: New Mirrors!

Thanks for the post. Good idea. I'm used to the whistling now. I think it keeps the deer from getting hit on those country roads!!

Re: New Mirrors!

You gotta put the backing plates on or the mirrors will vibrate bad and go out of adjustment real fast. It's a little bit of a PITA - you have to take the window out to get your hand back there and hold the backing plate on while you screw it on. I wish they would tell you about the backing plates. The only one I've seen that carries them so far is GMC Paul's - and I believe he wants $30 for a pair. I just fabbed up a couple pieces of quarter inch plate, drilled the holes, put nuts on the back, and pray that I don't need to pull them off again for a while (My '70 just got painted). BTW, not to jack the thread, but I have a pair of those mirrors if your interested, just PM me.
