I only ran it the one time at the Friday night street legal drags when I first got it back together just out of curiosity. It only ran 87 mph so it was only at about 4800 rpm with the 32" tall tires. It will live at 6000 rpm no problem with the motor as is.

It weighs too much being a 3/4-ton 4x4 and the SM465 makes it hard to shift quickly. In a much lighter C-10 truck it would be quite a bit quicker probably 14.30's or so. The same engine in my Chevelle ran 13.50's.

So can I but not anywhere near as quickly as an M21, T-5 or T-56 car trans.

With my Camaro I could shift with my foot to the floor on the throttle. Power shifts are brutal on the parts but the shifts can happen fast enough to not have to lift at all. Needless to say I broke quite a few transmissions.

Tell me about it. With the gearing in my truck I spend way too much time shifting that pig.

The good thing about the gearing is that I can pull 3rd gear from a 10 mph roll and 4th from about 25.

Tracks don't like antifeeeze. It makes a real big mess when it gets dumped on the track

Some won't let you run with it. But if its just a "fun day", then they usually don't bother you about it

It's not just messy but very hard to clean up completely.

It is also extremely slippery. Blow a hose going down the track and it will get all over your tires and put you into a wall or worse into the other lane and possibly the other car.

another tip for you, don't wait for green to launch, I found best rersults with leaving when the last yellow bulb lights, this will improve your reaction time.

My neighbor took his old van down the track the same day I took my truck. It was so slow reacting that he could leave on the second yellow bulb.

Every car and driver are different. It will take some experimentation and practice to figure it out for yourself.

Good luck and have fun.

Re: going racing friday night

a few years ago i ran a friends car at the local track in the super heavy class and the guy i was racing busted a fuel line and got on the track. cam II easy clean up but not to mention he got a 500 dollar fine for them having to close the track for 30 min for clean up. i dont know if all tracks do that but the one i go to does.
