Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

You know you have to much stuff pack ratted away, when you find an Alpine on the shelf you forgot you had.... Man having kids in sports really keeps you away from your garage and you loose track of what you have .

Found my old Alpine 9827 that I thought I have given to my brother. It has CD changer controls, that I used to run an Ipod hook up in to, had to manually run the Ipod. But this saves me some money that can be applied else where to the truck.

nekkidhillbilly, thank you for your efforts, I really do like that Parrot MKi9200, just not sure it would have the power to run speakers with out an added amp like the Kicker would. Need to research it more, might be a solution for my 94 Silverado.

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

I used a van a/c compressor on my ls swap in the stock ls location. The outlets are in a little different location than the truck compressors.

What did you do for engine mounts? The adapter plates on my engine was interfering with the compressor in its stock location.

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

I cut the front ear off the plate and then redrilled the holes and slid the perch that bolts on the frame back and redrilled the holes for it.
It shows how in this thread.

I really want to run 6 lug wheels.
Tore the axle shafts out tonight. Confirmed that the pass side shaft is a mess. It needs replaced, if I'm going to keep this 10 bolt in the truck... May be my cheapest route...

Anyone used any offset bearings? and had any luck?

Looks like a good reason for a 12 bolt swap... maybe money ahead if you snag one with the correct gears and limited slip. I'd shop it.

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

since you wanted 6 lugs you could get 88 up 10 bolt with the gov lock and 342 or 373 for next to nothing. its what they use in the new trucks with a 5.3 would be ok with yours id think.

I have a 14 bolt SF already. Just not sure I want to go that route... leaning towards rebuilding my old 12 bolt.

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

just depends on what you wanna do then. the 14 bolt would be the strongest but 6 lug swap would have to be done. another idea is the get the 10 bolt you have and stick a newer 10 bolt gov lock and gears in it. if you want to save money but build a good geared rear with some kind of posi. would stay 5 lug then. idk anything about using offset bearings though i think for the money a good shaft would be not alot more.

I've checked into doing a newer style 10 bolt gov lock type swap into my older 10 bolt, from what I've read the bearings are different enough that they won't interchange.

Rock Auto has a stock replacement axle for $125, that would be the cheapest repair option. I've searched Craigslist for another used axle, man these are getting to be like a Hens tooth, just not there...

I can build the 12 bolt back up, it will be plenty strong and can retain the 5 lug rallies.

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

Made up my mind, 10 bolt is staying in the truck. Went on Advance Auto and found a promo code that saved me some descent coin on an axle shaft, outer bearing, and seal. $125 shipped! Axle shaft is a Motive Gear, looks like good stuff.

Now on to other things!

Re: Prepping for the Power Tour

really? i thought you could guess im thinking of just the gears. glad it all worked out though. dug some you can use up to 99 after 99 nbs its the 8.6 prior is the 8.5 but can retro fit 8.6 guts in a 8.5 idk how cost effective it is. http://www.my4by.com/gm-10-bolt-8.5-...-8.6-inch.html
