About doing it yourself. Whats the deal on replaceing/welding cab corners with those fuel tanks right behind them? That part would make me nervous! Do pros lift the cab before welding on rocker/ cab corner panels? Do they do it outside or am I worried over nothing?
With a diesel tank you can pump exhaust fumes into the tanks so they wont blow up when you weld on them but what do you do with a gas tank?

The gas tanks arn't really close enough to cause problems. Just make sure you have a good cap, hose etc so there are no obvious fumes to ignite.

If you are really concerned about it, dropping the tanks is no big deal after you siphon them out

if youre going to siphon em out leave the caps off for a day or two and there wont be anything in there at all to ignite

Cab corners and gas tanks are no biggy. Take the advice given in previous posts and make sure there are no vapors present. Fill the tank as the vapors are what do the igniting. I just place a leather welders apron on the inside between the tank and cab corner being worked on. Do as much work yourself ie. strip paint, remove old bondo, clean the frame, zero rust the frame, top coat the frame, strip trim, install trim do the interior etc. this grunt work all adds $$$ to the projects bottom line. This is also fun as you can say when it's all done that you were hands on a part of your truck project.

Painting the frame is also a good way to get hands on experience using a paint gun.

Ah, everything from the frame down is already done

Both axles are totally overhauled and painted, steering was overhauled, same with the frame rails, engine, transmission transfercase and driveshafts. Even the e-brake and brake lines are all brand new

The work I need done is purely body sheetmetal including the cab, outer fenders, front clip skirt, cab, doors, box and tailgate
