Re: Motor Pulling SOB

I'd pull the nose (few bolts, take note of the shims and where they cam from )
undo the light wires and take it off.. , now roll(drive) truck into garage.. unbolt engine tranny, unwire it , use'n a note pad and tape to mark what went where.. digital camera too. picutes are worth a 1000 words..
pull it out,, roll truck out into driveway, block it and sit the nose back on..
now seperate the engine tranny..
and do your work,,
while you have it out, pull the converter and replace the tranny front seal and the rear seal..
then with the front seal wet(tranny fuild on it) install the converter, it'll click in as you turn it slowly, your looking for two clicks,, you'll feel them..
bolt together, drop it in and wire it up.. start it up.. better to find a leak(oil) before you reinstall the nose..
no leaks button down the nose..

The transmission came out easy I'm glad it did them together, now I can clean up the transmission and seal it up good too.

Re: Motor Pulling SOB

While you remember where the wires go mark it on masking tape wrap around wires. One hour a day I would forget. Mine only has a few... But still. Have FUN!

Re: Motor Pulling SOB

An hour a day was way too much an estimate of how much time I had. Since then we had a winter where I didn't want to go in my garage much, I adopted one kid, had another kid through birth (well my wife did the birthing), changed jobs (which will free up my time better).

So where I am at now, I am going this friday to pick up the block from the guys who bored and honed it and polished the crank. I am also getting my kit from them so maybe in another year (or hopefully by october) I will have the engine back in and running. My garage time will still be limited for a while by the excessive heat.

I do need to finish this project now that I have another car project to work on sitting in my driveway - a '83 diesel benz that I intend to be my commute to work car. That is a story for another forum though.
