Tires Squel When I Brake - Why?

ok, so finally got to test drive the truck after putting that shoe separator back in (had to replace the starter and ignition cylinder key lock - don't ask)

the passenger side rear wheel still locks up, so tomorrow after work I am going to swap the drums and shoes from left to right to see if the problem follows, if it does then it's time for new shoes and I'll have the drums turned, or get new ones if I have to

I would just buy new shoes and clean the drums. Shoes are cheap and drum brakes are a PITA...save yourself a lot of time and hassle and replace the shoes and call it good. No point in taking things apart twice.

PepBoys could not turn my old drums as there was not enough meat on them so bought brand new drums, shoes, and hardware kit

while reassembling the brakes found out that the metal struts that spread the shoes were swapped the left was on the right etc, not sure this would have caused my problem, but I put them back where they belong

after putting it all back together, went for a test drive, and I am finally pleased to report problem solved

1/2 ton drums are reasonably cheap.

I always finish assembly on one side then move on to the other. Two reasons. #1 I always have a mirror image that's still assembled to look at as I re-assemble the goodies. #2 I don't mix up parts RH to LH.

Did you clean the rust out of and lube up the star wheels? I actually use never seeze on these as they don't have much actual movement over time.
***Edit... Looks like the star wheels are new. Still need lube to keep from seizing.
