I just had ANOTHER new SPID made from "Chipflyer" and as before, he did an awesome job. Luckily, the things that would have been the hardest to add, were ordered from the factory ( toolbox, HD springs, auxiliary springs, air conditioning and the wood bed ) As you can see from the picture below, four more items have been added to the truck since he made the first SPID last October - some COULD have been on it in 1970 - and some COULDN'T !!! ( they're ALL on there now, anyway - except the wiring for the auxiliary battery and trailer harness ) Most of the things were added to make the truck safer, more reliable, easier to use and less of a "Gas Hog". They were all of the things I would have ordered on a 1970 Chevy Truck ( if I hadn't been in High School at the time !!! ) To me, everything else falls into the category of . . . "Might-as-well" !!!

Well, I still haven't gotten the truck back yet, but I now have the "latest" pictures of the "ALMOST finished project.

All that's left to do is install the new rear gears. ( and a few little things )

It's red oak with two coats of dark walnut stain followed by five coats of marine spar varnish.

We put on the tailgate letters yesterday . . . spraying with water didn't work - they stuck to the paint and DIDN'T move.

When I put the white letters on the blue tailgate, 15 years ago, they could be moved around to get into place.

So NOW, the letters aren't on very straight !!!

or maybe it was dish soap, one of the two !! but you should be able to use a heat gun heat up the letters and then peal them off

Looking real nice Steve!

The lettering, hmm... I bought some letters to use for for masking when we go to paint the tailgate. My tailgate lettering is suppose to match the bronze color, surrounded by white. The idea was to put the decals in place on top of painted bronze letters, then paint white for surrounding. Thinking the decals would be easily removed, what you are saying is begining to make me wonder if we should apply them differntly so that we can take them off after white has been sprayed. I know windex (which you hadn't used) is good to use for applying window tint.

I made an appointment to have the brake booster checked by my local mechanic and on the way over ( a ten mile ride ) the truck started to backfire and lost almost all it's power on hills. It ended up drifting into his shop with a stalled engine. He listened to it and thinks it's a broken exhaust spring ( the original engine has 198,000 miles on it and we don't think it's been rebuilt ) He'll check out the brake booster to see what's wrong with it and "T R Y" to put the wheel covers on while it's there !!! I guess the engine rebuild isn't going to make it to next summer !!!

Good news from my mechanic . . . the roughness in the engine was a broken push rod and lifter . . . a lot better then a new engine !!! They were fixed today and he got my Highlander wheel covers to go on too !!! ( he had to "customize" the back of them a little ) The brake booster is holding vacuum - he's going to drive it a little and see if the booster is working ( if it ever stops raining )

I also mentioned to him that I wanted to eventually rebuild the engine and install an overdrive transmission - he said he can pull the engine, bring the truck back to my garage on his trailer and reinstall everything for me this winter . . . then all the "big stuff" will be done !!!

I didn't actually see it, he might have said it was "bent" - it's running pretty good now but still needs to be rebuilt . . . someday.
