I'm running a auto, stock gears don't know exactly what they are. But what I gather from the input is, a big block is the trophy, and if I had one laying around I'd do it, but cause I don't, I guess I got to go with the pocket book, I already have the 350. Now all I need to know is the best way to build a 383, sorry big block boys, I'd love one, so i could be part of your club, but well you know the story, the family just wouldn't go for the no grocerys idea, inlou of the big block, I even tried a tempertantrum, why can't I have a big block, wife wouldn't budge. thanks for the input boys

You ask how to build it? First of all how much HP do you want out of it?
How high are you going to be spinning it? Are you planning on useing any spray gas with it? What kind of a budget do you have for one? I am in the process of gathering parts to build one right now, this has been a pretty long project for me, but I am going to have close to $ 4,000 when completley done with it. Getting all my other project out the way on the truck first. Sam

I have never run a big block before. Until I bought my 69 with a 454... and all I can say is I am sure glad that it has 3 gas tanks... the truck is wicked fast, it will pass anything but a gas station...
but hey, there is more to life than gas milage.

I use the truck for a every day driver, I won't have my foot into it all the time,it's not for drag racing,No spray gas. I'm thinking like 375 hp, I don't want to be filling it up at every gas station. All the input I can get will be appreciated, Some of you guys know what would be a nice runner, Here's kind of what I would be looking for reliabilaty, reasonable gas mileage, And a strong puller,After all it is a pretty heavy truck, it's a 4x4 that won't leave the pavement.I heard theres lots of differant ways to build a 383, you guys kind of know what want to use it for, I don't want to abuse it.More questions later, thanks

There are as many different ways to build an engine as there are guys building them.
Go here -----> Ryan's Small Block Chevy Combos There are several different 383 combos detailed there. Even a mild 383 is going to cost a few bucks. Be honest with yourself and decide if what you want is going to be worth the expense. Me, I'm a hopeless case and would probably spend my last dime on some vehicle. Whatever you do, just keep it all in perspective. It CAN get out of hand pretty easily. Jeff
