Re: something different 66 long travel truck

Cool, i had a 96 chevy stepside 2 wheel drive i put a 6 inch fabtech lift on with 33's yyyeeeeaarrrrssss ago. I guess the big tires and such killed my power and truck never seemed to drive right no matter what i did so i eventually lowered it again. When you get a set of tires on there i think it will make it look really good.

You should have changed the rear axle ratio, to 4:11 or such, the large diameter tires are like running a 1:98 rear axle ratio Kieth

That's what I was thinking too, Tony. Gotta like that gasser straight axle look, although on a truck it's different! Thanks for showing us what you're up to Dino!

exactly my first thought in fact seems like a good way to do just that = gasser/street freak style. I can easily picture a set of fenderwell dumps pokin out under them fenders

Dino - if ya dont mind, what fabtech kit is that?

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

hey dino:I have an idea for you...
this truck is going to be like a baja racer, right?
so you are going to need big wheelwells for lots of clearance.
how about using some fenders off a 2 ton, they should bolt right on , and would look stock.
then maybe cut up another pair, for the fleet bed...

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

You need a sweet front bumper!
I built this several years ago while I was learning basic fab stuff, it was my second attempt at a front bumper, my truck being the first.

Getting respect from the guy I was building it for while I had my back turned

F'ing F-rds! Notice the difference in frame rail size!

Dont mind the garbage can and clamp, "someone" forgot to order mounting tabs

Finished product!

This was all completed in less then 8 hours, all with scrap laying around the garage, except for the tubing.

Bagged! Oh, I have been thinking about doing that for so long! Going from prerunner to dragging skidplate at a flick of a switch. Dude, you HAVE to post pictures of this as progress is made!

Just dont go cheap on shocks, I have seen a few prerunners with bags, and you NEED real deal shocks. If you run bags for the springs, be sure to use limit straps, get a triple bypass shock if you can, and let it rip!

Cool...did you gusset behind it too ?? Looks like one good hit, and it would buckle upward.

Cool looking though.

Although, I would build beefy bumpers that would double as air-tanks.

I gussetted it back under the frame for about 4 inches, and along the side of the framerail. I didn't do the upper, my thinking is that it is alot easier to replace the front bumper if it gets slammed harder then it should, then to replace the framerail under the suspension mounting points. I built the bumper on my truck the same way, haven't had any issues yet, and it survived a good front end stuff into a dune at about 40 that stopped the truck.
