I will take my chances rather than pay someone to "let me drive" MY truck. Make sure you know their definition! If you drive to work, then home, then to the store, do you have to wait until the next day to come home?

You are not paying some one to drive you truck .. You are paying for the unknown and I meant 3 times a week .. That was the cheapest I found so I was just passing the info on.. I know I am not the only one who is looking .

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

most insurance compaines first question is "is it modified in any way" and when you say "yes" it is not insurable, so if you lie to them and say no and you have a claim I bet there will be a fight to get any money.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

No offense intended 69. I thought in your first post that you didn't want restrictions like Haggerty, but then you seem OK with a policy that only lets you drive three times a week. I have Allstate, to answer your original question.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I use allstate, when I was looking it was about half the price of State Farm. But I always lie about how much I drive.. My insurance would cost more than my fuel if I told the truth, and driving 100 miles a day that isn't cheap.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

You're stuck, it is what it is. Get the best regular policy you can and a good agent that you trust. I think you can also get an agreed value policy as a secondary.

I will say after having specialty insurance for awhile, I finally loosened up about the driving restrictions. The verbiage is something like "pleasure driving". Since it seems like all I ever do is work, most days I get to "pleasure drive" are TO the office. Not a problem. It's driving FOR work that is a problem. As long as you 1) have another vehicle listed as your primary and 2) keep it in a locked garage they can't get too hung up on where exactly you were going when you had a fender bender. None of their damn business to be precise.

My neighbor runs Anpac Chrome, they are indeed the least restrictive agreed value specialty coverage. I think they even have an unlimited policy now...but most of the regular rules apply. I was able to get a rider for one week of DD use on my truck while I was in between daily drivers, but I can say for sure they will not insure DD's.

You can't go wrong with State Farm in my opinion. I can drive it all I want and I know its covered(agreed Value). You may pay a bit more, but when you have an accident I prefer a national company.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

For a dd state farm writes a standard policy. This means if you get in an accident they will make you an offer based upon comps. The comps will be no where near as nice as yours. To cover yourself pay the $400 now to get it professionally appraised by a certified appraiser. Realize that should something happen you will be forced to fight them for your value.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I'm ok with driving 3 times a week with the other ones they wouldn't let you drive it . I don't want to have to go threw the hassle of fighting with State Farm or framers when they say my truck is worth 3k .. The chrome is a good deal . I got 100/300 50/100. Best bang for you buck . Agreed value is 15k I have to send pictures of the truck.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I think State Farm is the way to go, but I am a little biased being a State Farm Agent. I have customers come to me all the time because we can cover their classics for full coverage when others simply can't. Now to be fair, I have customers that have "trailer queens" and not DD, so I normally recommend Grundy and/or Haggerty. My dad has Grundy on his 1968 GTO and just had a claim covered without issue. But for all DD, you want an insurance company and agent on your side if you have an issue. Just my two cents...

I appreciate it but I can only write in Texas. Let me know if you need any help finding a good agent on the West Coast.

That sounds like a sweet deal.

Ah, I see their territory is Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

To be honest, I have 3 other vehicles and homeowners insured with State Farm, but my premium on my daily driver on topic vehicle is $300 annually - liability only.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

First I currently use Grundy for my collector cars. $25k "AGREED Value" runs me $197 per year with full coverage and no dedcutible. The truck can be used for parades, to and from shows etc, but is not to be used for daily use.

I'm currently building my 72 GMC to drive, so I ran an online quote from American Collector Insurance. The truck will need to be garaged, but I can drive it for up to 5000 miles per year which should be about right. I currently have 6 other cars, and can't possibly drive any of them a great deal. The quote for 12 month coverage with $500 deductible was $810.15 for $25k agreed value. The important thing here is the price is about the same as using Allstate or State Farm. The difference is America is offering "AGREED VALUE".

As Yoda would say, "Choose Wisely".

I appreciate this thread and especially this last post.
I have my AAA agent checking into a policy for my Resto Mod Stepper. AAA has formed a partnership with with Hagerty and he is researching it for me.

I got an online quote from American, I went high at 60K Agreed Value. (I do not do my own work so I have labor costs to consider) $1,000 Deductible and Liability. Premium is $1,500 a year with 7,500 miles. I have to do some thinking to determine what Agreed Value I will actually go with but its nice to know this option is out there. Defensive driving is a no brainer but there are a lot of idiots driving junk rigs that pay a lot more attention to their iPhones then they do traffic. Piece of mind has value to me and my truck will see more street time this way.

Yea .. That what I was saying , you pay for the unknown .. To me my truck is worth 1000 bucks a year to drive my truck and not have to worry about anything while driving it . I'm going to call AAA to see what kind of plans they have

To repeat the great advice that has already been posted here..... make sure your getting a quote for AGREED VALUE...... and that Daily Driver or Occasional use is covered and stated in the policy. I do not know yet if AAA/Hagerty is offering this. I am still waiting to hear back.

Think of this as your very nice pickup.

This happened to my wife last July. She was driving in town, doing about 35mph when a woman pulled out of a parking lot, cut across 3 lanes of traffic to make a left turn. She barely made it past the first two cars but not past my wife. This is what a car valued at $50k looks like after such an impact. Fortunately my wife was ok, the car did what it was suppose to do, crumple up. And my insurance, Allstate, looked up the comps and I was lucky, they paid me a little more than what I gave for the car a year before. Totaled.

Now imagine your nice 72 GMC pickup which you've got about $30k in, but probably on paper is valued at about $5k if you're lucky. Want to dig in your pocket for the extra $25k and try and replace it? Not me. I'll insure it correctly. This stuff does happen. Only once so far in my 59 years on this planet, but it does happen.............QUICKLY.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

Hey guys,
I just want to make sure that you guys keep in mind "private passenger" and "antique". Only reason I bring it up is I know some companies are super picky if you pick "antique" that vehicle can only be driven to the mechanic, car show, parades, etc. Grundy and Hargerty, to my knowledge, is a stricly "antique" insurance, which is why they are so inexpensive. I am not saying it will not be covered if they find out other wise, just be careful when trying to save some bucks. I don't want anyone to get disappointed when you have a DD like mine, so I go "Private Passenger". Hope this helps and be safe with your classics. There are some crazy asses out there!!
