Re: Truck Sits Crooked

If I was building a show perfect truck I would want to take the lean out... but just as a daily driver I don't see any reason to mess with it... especially if most other square bodies have it.

Does the front and back lean the same amount? The frame could be tweaked in one area and if only the front (or back) is leaning only way to fix it maybe by a frame shop.

Offtopic... what kind of CB do you run?

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

it's just a daily driver so I may be able to look into a frame shop see what they say. I think it actually leans on the whole drivers side I believe. I actually didn't get a CB yet I picked up the Antennas. I thought I had one lying around but I didn't. Any good ones you recommend. Jay

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

I don't know what the hot CBs on the market are at the moment. I only have ones that others have given to me. I am currently running an Cobra 19 Ultra (original, I think they are on like IV of V by now).. but I do not like that it reverts to channel 9 every time you turn it off. I also have an old Realistic... I haven't tuned the SWR yet so I don't know what I am currently capable of. I am running a 102" whip on my Jeep Cherokee.

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

102" thats big I want to get something that has a weather band built in I think that would be pretty cool. Reverting to channel 9 I think I had one that did that that's a accident waiting to happen..

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

I would rather get into 2 meter HAM rather than spending a lot of money on a CB. You can get farther and deal with less BS with HAM.

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

hey, my 85 swb has the same lean, i did L&R measurements and there is a lil more than 1 inch difference between the upper and lower arms. it leans to the drivers side. but i think its just my upper and lower arm bushings cuz they are rotted, and looks like the previous owner decided to just shim up the upper arm cuz theres about and 1.5inch of shims on the pass. side. and also my truck only has one gastank, so that could also be part of the problem.

been waiting for the bushing kit from Summit Racing, and just yesterday got a postcard saying the parts in back order and now i gotta wait till 3/31 so they can ship-it, thats if they can get it.. and i cant find any place here that has them in stock either. i will try an post up pics later today if this rain calms down.

The truck was hit in the passengers back cab corner at 1 time then a front drivers side corner fender and bumper. Could that have been what did it mabye tweaked the frame a little.?
if it was mine and you don't like the ean I would shim up the rad support a bit to take some of it out and maybe take a hair off the pass side

IF YOUR FRAME IS LEVEL its all in the badoy MOUNTS somewhere open the hood and measure from the top of the rad support to the ground in front of the rad on both sides....

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

Good point I looked at the A arm Bushings they look dry rotted I mean not horrible just hair cracks. Could the A Arm bushings be causing this. Or is it a chain of events maybe. Shimming up the Rad support is a good idea to.

Torque!! Mine has the same problem. One inch difference between rear left and rear right height. Drives me nuts. I'll correct it soon enough with lowering leafs and spacer.

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

ima wait till the arm bushings come-in. and if that dont fix it, then ima keep on looking, i know theres got to be a way to fix the lean without having to shim up anything.

oh, yeah i forgot to metion that i can wiggle my lower drivers side control arm, thats why im blaming them for the lean. plus all the bushing are dry rotted and they have shrunk, i will post up some pics sometime next month when i get them and intall them.

hopefully i dont get anymore postcards from summitracing.

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

so finally i got the bushings in and installed both upper and lower a-arm bushings on both sides. while i was under there i also removed some of the shims the previous owner had piled on it.

once done, i remeasured, so now im just off by 1/4". not noticeable to others, but i see it, still gotta replace the shocks, and fix camber on my passangers side, so maybe thatll fix it...

plus i still got all the body mounts to install, and trans mount, and leaf spring bushings, and find me a swaybar to intall on it also.

Re: Truck Sits Crooked

it wont be hard if u have the necessary tools,
what u will need to make it faster and easier,
-pickle fork, or long prybar to pull spindle off arms
-torch or somekind of flame to burn out the old bushings, mines i just heated them up with a regular propane heat flame.

i pulled both the upper and lower control arms off the truck, i didnt wana risk burning up the truck when heating the old bushings up.

on my old one the hole was way off center on whatever was left of the bushings.
