The deluxe steering wheel is correct for your 65. Please refer to Historical/ This I Know Section. May I copy your photo of the dash for posting in that Thread?

Hey Joe..........................Looks like you have everything you need to do the switch........................I couldn't tell if you have the lower hinges for your bottom gate.........Also, it looks like one of your upper gate hinges is broken........Did you get a chance to check out the picture of my valance panel where the lower hinge goes through to the frame? Is that an extra set of barn doors in there too?..........................Later, Hemmit

Those are American Racing "CP-200's" and are somewhat sought after for older musclecar applications, Have the centers bead blasted and polish the lips and you will be in some serious old school cool!

Killer burb! Have you done any more on the back door swap? Would like to see the thread on that?

Well thank you. Sadly I have not. I took a look at a few of the other type of rear doors but it will be way too much metal workin for me to handle. I can only imagine what someone would charge me to do it. I really like how the clam style hides the hinges, not like these bulky hinges it has now. oh well, maybe some day. Oh and hemmit yeah there is a extra set of barn doors there.

Re: Just picked up this 65 Suburban.

So did you say there is an extra set of doors? I would be interested as my panel was used for a paint/Wrestling pit. It looked as if they used a battering ram to open it from the inside. I spent one day removing the inside wood from mine. I think the rear lifted 2 inches.

Actualy I have bad news to report. The itch to drive this thing was just way too strong to resist so I pushed the truck aside and started on the burb. The PO had all kinds of sh!t he ran off of the wiring to power speakers, amps, lights, etc. I pulled all the unnecessary crap out and made heads and tails of everything. I tried to crank the motor with no luck. I tried turning it by hand but it is frozen. I sprayed penetrating oil into all of the cylinders and let it sit for a few days with no luck. All those years of sitting has proven to be fatal for this engine. I picked up a replacement 350 the next day and am currently putting it in. I am going to stretch its legs once its done, Im thinking Frisco or LA.

The steering wheel and chrome horn ring assembly is a factory option for the '60-'65 Chevy trucks. The factory Impala chrome horn ring assembly is different...the main bar extends past the connection point of the half-ring on the Impalas and they come together at 90 degrees on the truck horn rings. Also the center button is different on the Impalas, than the one shown in the photo...the one on the Suburban is factory original to the trucks for '60-'65.

PS - Super nice score, even with the engine issues. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Just picked up this 65 Suburban.

Update. I got this thing running and all the wiring issues worked out. Gonna put some serious miles on it as soon as the rain clears up. An adition to the family? More to come.
