Still can't figure out why some data plates are still blue and some, including mine, have turned black. Apparently, it has nothing to do with age. Mine's a 66.

This is a time capsule!

Nice! Looks like even though the paint has thinned a bunch, it did not lose all it's color. Obviously, it was not pampered, but I'm guessing it was stored indoors the whole time.

Do you think it's possible that some were just blue and some were just black from the get go? I have a hard time picturing the blue ones some how changing to black. Seems like distinctly different colors from the factory.

That sounds logical. I guess I haven't researched it enough but all I ever seem to see are blue ones being reproduced.

Great find and looks great.

Not to Highjack but I have an original 63 230 I pulled out sitting in the basement now. I got truck from Grandad when He died, He was original owner and it was 100% when I got it in 1980. It's greasy but has the factory color. What are Y'all looking for as color goes?

Ideally, someone planning on rebuilding and repainting an original engine with very well preserved original paint on the valve covers, gets the color scanned and receives a formula from a paint shop, and shares the info with us, so we don't have to use off the shelf colors in the restoration process. The blueish greenish turquioseish 230-250 is a tough one!

It is an odd color for sure. It almost seems they just mixed whatever green/blue they had and shot them. I have a v8 swap painted Detriot green so not using the 230 for now. It will just sit and wait if I want to go back to original down the road.

That's not even close to being a true statement.

Jealous! I used to live in CO, I guarantee that thing is rust free. The western slope is a nice, dry climate for something like that to sit for that long. Congrats on snagging that one!
