Re: name your American made parts

I bought a set of anti-sway bar bushings the other day at Napa and was pleasantly surprised to see Made In America on the box. I hope it didn't mean that just the box was made in America

There's quite a bit of domestic stuff out there if you look for it. I always look first, but sometimes it's just not out there.

I wish they all were, and yes I will pay more for the American stuff. I choose the Edlebrock or the Weiland for that very reason.

Just curious...could you stay in business selling only Made in America parts? It sure would separate you from the crowd!

I just swapped out a radiator in a 1970 suburban for a friend, the new one was a nice piece, very reasonable and made in Canada. Not USA but close...

Re: name your American made parts

Not enough parts made to only sell American made parts. Sad but true. That just gives me incentive to produce our parts here though. It is sad but true that most people choose price over quality or country of production. I have 71/72 Gas Filler Grommets that my company produces here in America, but don't sell very many because people choose the tiawanese cheap knock-offs because they can save 3 or 4 bucks buying them. Then cry when they fail in a month. Ours are guaranteed for 10 years, made in America, but do not sell well. I had 1000 of them produced 2 years ago and probably still have over 950 left. That is only one of the reasons that the work is going over seas. WES

Re: name your American made parts

Never really thought about it this way. I do work at the port here in Georgia and bring in hundreds of thousands of imports a year. I was talking with the GM port rep. back when the big three were having their problems. We were standing next to a Kia when we had this conversation and he told me that the biggest problem of it all is that if GM made the exact same car here in the U.S, they would have to sell it for 3 - 5k more to equal the same profit. Sad!

Anyways, as far as I know, everything on my 68 is all American made, even the rust!

And technically, my 2013 Kia Sorento is domestic, made in good ol West Point, GA.

Re: name your American made parts

How about ACC carpet. Still made in the US I believe: http://www.accmats.com/Company/acc.aspx

Last fall I needed a new flapper for a toilet tank. Went to two hardware stores trying to find a US made example. Each had the flapper. One store had a US made example the other had a Chinese made one. Guess what? The price was the same.

It's interesting that the Germans are net exporters of manufactured goods and I would guess they also have arguably some of the highest manufacturing related expenses and probably very stringent regulations for emissions, etc.

The corporate profit sneered at above would take place here as much as anywhere else.

And the bottom line is if you (generic you, calm down) have the choice between a $5 chinee (sic) part or a $50 american one; which gets purchased 99% of the time? A business cant run on the 1% of the population. There is no market for US stuff that costs 3 times as much.

So quit going to walmart, target, etc and go find US craftsmen and small shops to buy stuff from, then vote against the scumbags that put all the regulations in, quit paying your union dues and maybe, just maybe we can bring manufacturing back to the US.
My Mar-K trim was a little bit more but certainly not 10x's as much.
In fact after shipping only a few bucks more. If you're going to put down unions and the right to collective bargaining maybe we should repeal child labor laws, abolish the 8 hour workday (who only works 8 anymore anyways?) etc... The big three cut their own throats not unions, tho they have a part...we all do. Most guilty are the bankers with Goldman Sachs at the apex of the dung heap. No... Everybody plays a part and our choices matter. If I can I buy local and American. And I live a simple life.

Just got a new dash pad from LMC that is made by Just Dashes in California. Their carpets and floor mats are made by ACC, wich is also American made from what I understand.
