I dobut a bumper can help or hurt traction that much .. althou i did notice my 85 raise up after removing the bumper tailgate and chainbox.

One thing about having a bumper Vs roll pan is if someone isnt payin attention and looks up and everyons stopping but them the bumper will get messed up depending on how fast they were going that may be it

if you have a roll pan hmm rear bed crunched tailgate roll pan all could be damaged ,

I like roll pans too but i also like bumpers for looks and function.

The comparison pics above didn't help me any. I thought the truck with the bumper looked just as good, or better than the one without. I can't imagine not having a bumper, I would be worried all the time that someone was going to rear end me. I don't understand getting rid of the mirrors either if you use the truck as a daily driver. Don't you guys have trouble changing lanes without any mirrors?

I was trying to point out that a rear bumper is more functional for racing than a roll pan is for aerodynamics. A bumper and its brackets & bolts weigh 45 lbs I bet, and that is 45 good pounds on the right end of the vehicle when you are trying to gain traction in a truck. Granted, it won't make that big of a diference alone, but combine it with the fuel cell he wants to install and the gears and posi...well you get the idea. You also have a good point as far as getting rear ended, a roll pan won't do squat except allow more damage to occur.

I agree with Jeff, the bumper will offer a little more protection than a roll pan if you back into something. Make sure its not a step bumper! You might customize it by shaving off the bolt heads for that smooth look. You might add some flared-rolled tipped 3" polished stainless steel exhaust tips just under the bumper too!

With a pair of 17" tires and the right gears and a positrac rearend getting the traction to the ground should be no problem rather you have a bumper or a roll pan.

Either way it doesn't matter these truck look ok with a bumper pr a roll pan
was just saying that with a phantom grill and those rims Eric just put on his truck that a roll pan would look better. But if he wants a bumper thats alright
it' his truck and he can put on whatever he wants.

I thought your truck was one of the best looking around before, but those wheels really look great!! One of the things that appeals to me about your truck is that it's not an extremely radical custom job, so stick with the bumper idea...no rollpan.

looks sweet man. don't listen to them about the bumper. put one on there. not every truck needs to be shaved with a roll pan and billet grill with big diameter wheels. boring and played out IMO

Yea I agree the wheels are awsome but I like both the bumper on some trucks and roll pan on others.I personaly think your truck needs arear bumper because it still has a stock looking paint sceme.
