Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I just switched the insurance on my truck to Hagerty with an agreed upon value. Had to take some pictures of the bed special though because they wanted to make sure i did not use it to haul or tow. It hasnt moved in 3 years! It was also the cleanest my truck bed had been in the same amount of time. I think my premium is like $120/year.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I think you should call them and confirm this. I have a truck in similar condition insured though them. They denied my initial application because I didn't have a garage. I pointed out to the person that I spoke with that the photos I submitted were with the truck in my driveway - and the garage was plainly visible in the pics.
They also had denied me because they said the truck wasn't collector condition. I asked the guy what the problem is, and said I estimated the value at $5,000, not $50,000. Before I finished that sentence though, he said my application was approved. Maybe the embarrassment of the garage photo was enough to just get the deal done. Been insured with them for about 4 years now. Cliffs notes: just call them and double check. |

I have hagerty on all of mine, very easy people to deal with. Most of my trucks are original survivors like yours. Give them a call.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
Mine's VERY dented and scratched, and got approved by Hagerty. Can't drive it with my learner's permit though.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I've got a '72 Blazer and '71 GMC K1500 insured through Hagerty. Both are unrestored and mostly original, so they have dents, dings, and rust.
If you intend to use your truck, then Hagerty likely won't insure them. Good prices, but they insure collector vehicles, which typically sit in the garage and don't get driven or used much. Maybe try AAA or GEICO. |

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
My truck looks a lot worse than yours. I insured for $30k agreed value (all of my $$$ is in the drivetrain) through Geico, which is really them playing agent for American Modern. Certain stuff applied----Locked garage, have to have a separate daily driver, if undergoing restoration had to be at least 75% of the way there. I took the pics standing waaaaaaaay back, explained that all that is left is the bodywork, and that it was an ongoing restoration. I legitimately have $30k into the truck, but they didn't even ask for receipts.
Reading the fine print, I'm covered driving it up to 7500 miles a year, not covered if racing, and its not to be used for "general utility". Otherwise, its decent.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I have AAA on my truck for about $240 a year, but after reading this thread I am thinking I need to look into how/what kind of coverage I actually have and figure out what I need. Any pointers to look at? It's not a daily driver, but I do use it to do things it is more suited for than my car, like haul stuff for the house (dirt, lumber, etc) or simply take my surf board to the beach. I also drive it the .25 mile to the gym in the morning just cause I can...

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
My BIL, Ironhorse, had his truck appraised by a certified appraiser and then, I believe, his insurance company insured it for that value.
Good luck. |

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I’m seeing some huge dollar values with very low premiums, and that’s cool, so just a word of caution on Stated VS Agreed to policies. Stated amount/value policies and premiums are priced based upon what you say the item you’re insuring is worth. If you have a loss, the stated amount is the ceiling (maximum) the insurer will pay for that item. Stated value policies contain language something like; “The "Stated Amount" form states the insurance company will pay the lesser of: The Stated Amount or the cost to repair the covered item not to exceed the "Stated Amount" or the "Actual Cash Value of the item". At the time of the loss, the insurer will use current market data (NADA, KBB, recent sales, depreciation (example, five year old engine or paint WILL be heavily depreciated), etc) to determine their starting point for your items value. Then it’s up to you to convince the insurance company otherwise, up to the maximum “stated” amount. It can be a real battle and without recent receipts or a recent appraisal, well almost impossible. Stated value policies are usually very inexpensive due to the low risk of paying out “stated” dollar amounts. Agreed amount/value is the value that you and your agent/insurer agree your item is worth. The policy and premiums are priced based on this agreed to value. In the event of a total loss, that is the amount you’ll get. Agreed to policies are usually more restrictive (must have DD for every person of driving age in household, must have locked garage, usually have mileage limits, cannot haul/tow “anything”, will not cover if stolen at grocery store, mall, movie theater, hardware store, etc) due to the risk of higher payouts. Do your homework and get the policy that best works for you. Also, please review the liability limits, primarily on very low cost policies, they may not be enough to cover a judgment in the event you are at fault, in that case you will lose some or all of your assets. Peace, Lee

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
Try American Modern, they write GEICOs collector auto policies and for me were better and more flexible than Grundy or Hagerty. Make sure you ask whatever company if you are insured for the occasional non-car event drive to the hardware, grocery store, etc. Grundy and Hagerty told me "no". Carrying a cooler on a day outing at the lake in my Blazer was also a no-no for coverage with Grundy/Hagerty.

I was rejected by Grundy as well. They denied my agreed value of $7500 because the paint is faded. Ridiculous.

I am sure if you tell them you will not be using the truck as a truck anymore they will put it through....that is why I dont have mine insured as a classic because I do like to use it.....

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
Thanks for all the leads everyone. I might give Grundy another chance and try to make a case for insuring me. If not, Haggerty sounds like a pretty good way to go.
I don't think I said anything in my application that would lead them to believe my truck would be used for anything but what the spell out in their application.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I think they reject a lot of online applications... they want you to call in??? In addition to those in this thread, this has come up quite a few times on a classic Mustang forum I'm on... the majority of people got their cars insured by calling them after being rejected online. I have haggerty on my mustang.
I have state farm on the C10 only because it has to stay outside, my 67 firebird shares the other half of the garage with the mustang.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
Every one is talking about the bumper with the hitch.Any one hear of Power Tour there are 1932 Chevy's and Ford's with trailer hitches to pull there trailer behind them on the Tour and no body says any thing about that.
Grundy can be a little Temperamental and over reaching at times. There are others out that that have unlimited mileage they only want your Ride to have a gauge and you must have a Primary Cars or truck.Your truck is fine best off Find one of them Flip down lic plate holders and hide the dang thing |

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I've got my truck insured with Grundy and it is way worse than yours. Granted, I only have it insured for the minimun $5,000. Also, I had an existing policy with my other 2 vehicles on it. Not sure if either of those things helped me, but without a doubt if yours didn't qualify mine shouldn't have either. I switched from Hagerty because it seemed that their rates kept rising each year, and Grundy saved me like $200 per year for the same coverage. I never had the truck under Hagerty though.

If they insure a vehicle for recreation that is actually a daily driver their risk is not covered by the premiums so they refuse coverage for a vehicle which "appears" to be a work truck. Paint your bed, put on a stock rear bumper and re-apply or, go to another company but they all play by the same rules in the collector car market. |

We had an appraisal for 25k and wound up going through Chrome. Good so far. The others wouldn't let us tow the bass boat with it, which is what we built it for!

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
American Collectors rejected me too on the truck so I pulled all of my business and went to Hagerty. Have probably 120k in value with them, it's like $380/year.

Re: I got rejected by Grundy.
I need to get my truck insured also. I have Hagerty on my 442, but their restrictions are terrible. I want to be able to drive my truck. I don't even put 5k a year on my DD so I would probably drive less then 1k with my 70, but I don't know what companies actually let you drive your vehicle other then to car shows.
