Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
Not right now. The motor has 64,000 miles and I purchased it with a 6 month warranty. After the build is complete I plan on some upgrades. One of the reasons I decided on the LS1 is the availibility of aftermarket parts - Its endless..

Is the trans a T56? if so here is a write up on moving shifter.

looks like fun, I'm doing the same myself, if this site weren't here, never woulda dove into a full on frame off resto but there is way too much info on here to not take full advantage and roll with it, good luck with the build

I did the same swap in my truck. Let me know if you run into any problems. What kind of engine mounts, fuel tank, harness, etc... are you going to use?

Nice little set up! Thanks for the pictures. I had been contemplating doing the same thing, I was looking at the Eastwood kit but for the price I will go with the Harbour Freight gun.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
making a little progress.. The cab is welded and primed. Now its time to mock up the engine/trans mount and tear the frame down for powder coating.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
Did you fabricate the gas tank filler piece or does somebody sell a formed filer panel for this spot? I have never seen one for sale.

http://www.infantimachine.com/products.htm I found them on the web. The filler neck fit great. you end up using very little filler. I purched all of plates for around $80 with shipping. Saved me time.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
Thanks for the compliments!! I am setting the cab on the frame this week so I can position the computer inside the cab - hopefully with no mods to the harness.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
At last I get to see one of these trucks that doesn't start out looking like Swiss Cheese, & that doesn't have to occupy the first 10-plus pages of the build thread just "patching" all the holes everywhere.
WOW ! what a super-clean starting point for a project. Looking forward to following this one. |

Really nice clean cab. I wish mine would started off that way. I am jealous.
